As the title suggest, craft kuskas from any tree bark.

meh...that's not such a major issue dude. just kill a rabbit and dry the hide to make a waterskin or manage to process some leather and get yourself a more efficient flask.

Yes I know, I just don't have any birch trees in my area; all are pine and fir. Guess I'll just make a water flask.

I really don't think this is the worst suggestion since kuksa's are really only valuable until you can make a flask, so isn't it then basically just catering for the very early stages of gameplay?

It does take a little while to get to leatherworking, then drying, tanning etc.

Any bark makes sense to me.

The real issue is that you cant drink ANYTHING without a cup or flask of some sort. Fix that and the lack of a kusla won't prevent a person from drinking.

Dunno, I like the uniqueness of birches and want to see more of it, not less. What about wooden cups instead, carved from a block? That'd still keep the birch kuksa better, because it takes less effort to make one.
