Lumberjacking direction

It would be great if you could direct which way a tree would fall when cutting it down. It isn't critical, but it does seem to be a frustrating aspect of the game sometimes, and something that could most likely be fixed/implemented without worrying about unintended consequences too much.

How about the opposite way from the side your standing on, simple and doesn't require any additional interface.

This has been suggested. J&L responded positively to the idea, but we still haven't seen any implementation.
Surprise.

that's actually the environmental protection - after a few attempts most players learn not to chop trees directly east of rivers and lakes. although a choice would be nice, specially if you could chop a tree into a fence as a siege bridge

That other thread had it as one idea mixed with a huge amount of others, better to have a dedicated one.
When the logs drop into water you can pick them up with boats at least (assuming you have free cargo space), but it's annoying with trees near buildings or walls.
I agree with Impaler's idea of just dropping the log in the opposite direction - there would be no need for a second menu and an unneeded mouse click :)
