Terrein Types+ Effects

Postby Wolfang » Sun Mar 14, 2010 6:35 pm

This has probably been mentioned before, but I couldnt search it. So here goes.

I've been thinking that there should be some extreme terrein types. By extreme, I mean terreins that actually have an effect on you.

Desert
-Large expanses of mostly empty sand (high Q sand points of course) no rivers, occasional oasis with palm trees= coconuts^^

-Effect of walking through desert: Your stamina drains pretty fast. This means that you will have to be very careful entering deserts (always take enough water).
If you have 0 stamina you cant move, your stamina will automatically go up a bit, once its reached 1/5 it will start draining again.

Lets take an example, Bob goes through the desert, unfortunately he forgets his water and after soem time is exhausted and can only move every now and then for a little way. The reason why I suggest they can move every now and then again, is so that a friend can come to the rescue, drop a water skin, and save his buddy who can wait till he can walk again, grab the skin, drink, and get the hell out of there.

The more clothes you wear, the faster your stamina lowers.

- Unique plants such as -Different types of Cactus--->you can ferment this and make tequila? healing qualities? There should be reasons for people to make the dangerous treck through deserts. Palm trees at Oasis'= Coconut. Aloe, plant which regenerates HHP.

-Unique animals such as Coyote? Scorpions? Snakes?, and later on when horses are implemented, Camels (these can walk through desert with no harmful consequences if you ride them)

Snowy Regions
- Snow is everywhere, the pine forests have snow on the trees. No rivers, the rivers= Ice (might be able to be harvested to preserve food for much longer)

-Effects: There is extreme cold. Wearing Bear cloaks and other animal skins is advised to stay warm. Things like metal armour and togas will not help.
Being in extreme cold weather will lower your pace to a crawl and if you stay there for any long periods of time, your health will go down (frostbite...).
Wearing 'tennis' racket shoes, also helps walking faster.

-Unique Plants Special types of herbs like spindly roots or nettles, but that can only be found there.

-Unique Animals Here it gets interesting, we can get the implementation of
-Polar Bears (white bears), they are more dangerous then normal bears, and Polar Bear cloak will protect much better against cold weather.
-Snow Wolves (if grey wolves ever get implemented for normal forests), snow wolf cloak anyone?
-Ice Fishing, break a hole in the river ice, and fish some special fish, or much higher Q fish.
-Moose, new antler types, they are rarer then deer, and stronger.
-Other critters?

Overall I want these terreins to be much more hostile, and make people think twice before they enter such a territory. I also want people want to go in these hostile territories and put themselves in harms way to get the unique goodies the terrain provides.

hostile terrians sound good, but what if you wild spawn right in the middle of a huge one? and the deserts should have aloe, which can be made into a healing salve that slowing regenerates HHP for a certain amount of time. And the artic areas should have Yeti's!!! Abominable Snowmen FTW!

I will add aloe to the list of plants.
I don't think it'd be hard for the dev's to make sure people dont spawn in hostile terrain types, just like you cant spawn in a river.

I have a bit of an issue with the whole 'the more that you wear in a desert' bit. Assuming you're not doing it wrong, wearing layers is actually beneficial.

Deserts, however, might be a reason to add things like turbans and other sorts of interesting clothing.

The setting of the game is quasi-Europe.

Well I thought it would be a nice addition, I'd like to think the devs are always open to new ideas.
It would add soem variation. Northern Europe has many snowy parts though.
It doesn't have deserts, true, but there are terrain types that sure do look like desert in the game.

*Some* variety is nice, but adding Sahara opens the door for katanas and kangaroos.

Katanas & Kangaroos?

I love that game, I played first edtion of it.

I had a 10th level Samurai Wallaby. He had the most insane jump attack, it was dope. He eventually got killed by the Shogun of the Outback, Hishiro Woomagoora.

which says nothing against either snowy areas in the far north or occasional snowstorms across the entire map, temporarily enabling said rare critters.
