sling stones idea

Postby Alkarym » Fri Mar 19, 2010 8:02 pm

so here i was, contemplating the world while waiting for my pack to fill with stones when i hit me like a ton of Q25 clay: archery has arrows, why no specific ammo for the sling? so here's my 2 cents on the matter;

-Ammo item stone Marble : would be quicker to use then rought stones, would do more dammage and/or be more accurate, would be stackable in a marble pouch like arrows in a quiver.

Ammo item metal marbles: same as stone ones except more dammage and/or more accurate

sorry if it has already been suggested, as i said in a previous post, i can't stand forums but i love this game so much that i had to throw my ideas in the lot :)

The word is "Bullet" and that's where the term for gun projectiles came from. Actually sounds like a fun idea, though metal-tipped arrows would be better.

You know what else would be neat? Crossbows. I understand they where banned by the pope because they basically allowed a peasant who was trained in a week to kill a knight who trained for a lifetime.
Surprise.

Crossbows are easy to use, but take an age to reload :) You also have to be pretty strong to use the winding mechanism. Shorter range than a bow but hey they packed a punch at close range.

I recon a normal bow could take out a night much like a dagger if they had no armour on :)

Now Longbows there is a weapon that required training and dedication to use :) High penetration even at long range. The French found out how deadly they can be.

But ammo for the sling would be nice, having the quality of the ammo be an addition to base damage not just part of the overall calculation. Thing is been hit by a rock, metal or marble isn't really going to make an impact they all hurt about the same. Now the shape and pointy edges of a crafted rock or piece of metal :) That could cause some more hurt.

this is a game, a role playing game, where rules apply for most things and dammages done ot others is one of them, now what would is change if i shot and arrot at you with a razor edge or just a piece of slightly cutting metal? if it penetrates your skin (wich is easy) it's just the same (in fact you would prefer to be cut by a razor edge rather than by a gross cutting edge for healing purposes)

now if the "qality" of every other weapon in the game can affect the damages, why not the quality of a marble/*bullet*?

Yup, I'm sure every person who used a sling has thought about a pouch and sling bullets and I agree, it would not only be nice, but practical too. Can also use belt slot as per Jackard's thread and a new bag can be created or a seed bag renamed and used for both.

Furthermore, I thought that, for other than casting metal bullets as the most superior, you could have:

Sand + parchment + bone glue = sandpaper
apply to chipped stone to yield 1 x stone bullet, sandpaper consumed

and have that as a mid-spec quality bullet.

Bumping this thread due to recent annoyances while hunting. A bullet pouch would really save time and stop player irritation.

Look at any demonstration of Sling use and you will see the user reach into a pouch for their ammo, not fish through the pockets of their Backpacks/Merchant Robes for small stones.

Right now though, I can see a couple Bullet ideas.

Bullet Pouch = 2 Leather + 2 String + Poor Mans Belt. Sits on belt slot.

Rough Bullet = Stone + Sharp Tool. Easiest to make, but inferior in terms of damage.

Smooth Bullet (Borrowing from Alkarym) Sandpaper/Grinding Stone/Some smoothing agent + Stone. More involved, using more resources, but a superior form of ammo.

Metal Bullets = Uses any Common Metal. When nothing but the best will do, ultimate sling ammo.
