Chat Hotkeys

Pressing the ENTER key should activate the current chat window. Pressing ESC should deactivate it even if there is text.

This.

And any windows opening shouldn NOT steal the chat focus.

And construction signs should enable mousewheel transfer of building material (type of material transfered is selected by hovering over the corresponding item in the build window).

Make an ingame typing hotkey.

Postby Onionfighter » Mon Apr 12, 2010 7:03 am

I am not sure, but I have had hotkeys in the middle of writing to someone ingame. I am not sure the cause of this, but it has caused me to rather inconveniently teleport to hearth once.

Besides fixing this, it would be useful to have a key I can press to be sure what I type goes into the text box.

like ctrl + s for area chat? should it just select the most recently used speech window (a private chat, village chat, area chat, party chat)? or should there be additional hotkeys for each type?

honestly crtl + s is pretty nonstandard, isn't it usually ctrl + t, or tab, or enter? i haven't played other mmos in a while.

I keep wanting ENTER to start typing in the chat bar (drilled into my brain by several MMOs).

I'm not sure this would work, at least if you are having the same problem that I have.

Sometimes when you are typing in a chat window your mouse gets grabbed and taken out of the chat window without warning. I believe this regularly happens is if someone offers you party while you are typing. There are a few other things that seem to cause it too.

In my experience I am busy typing away, "When I have finished in the mine I will come to the surface and party w..." They offer me party and the next part of the message "... ith y..." results in flying screens and red warnings like that criminal acts are now toggled on. At this point I usually stop and discover to my puzzlement that my mouse thinks I am trying to place a brand new timber house halfway into some dark and narrow mine shaft.

So I clear the mouse, try to untoggle any unwanted features, refuse party and find the chat window I was in and click on it again to finish explaining why I cannot party with them yet. I don't really get any warning that my typing has jumped from the chat window to the playing screen until all heck has broken loose, and getting back to the correct chat window isn't too difficult once the garbage instructions I have unwittingly given are cancelled.

Also happens if you type while walking. Is a fairly common occurance for me.

RIght-click on a chest and start walking towards it, as you walk, start typing. When the chest opens, whatever you type now potentially starts opening shortcuts.

Would be nice if there was someway to "lock" typing so taht if you're typing, nothing interrupts that process until you hit enter or deliberately click the little x or something.

Simple solution: make windows not steal focus.
