Bundling

Branches are an important material, but often times take up too much space. Once you start making bricks and begin to bake these things are needed in mass. Yes, there is the option cut logs into blocks but I rather use logs for building material rather than fuel. So I propose we be able to bundle sticks to save inventory and storage space. Bundles would work similar to a seed bag, holding up to 9 branches. Possibly other materials could be stored in a similar manner, like straw and plant fibers.

Extra mechanics, not necessary to the main idea: To start you would need at least 2 branches and string to craft a bundle. When you create the bundle it will initially contain however many branches used in its construction (2-9). To dismantle the bundle, remove all but 1 branch from its inventory (you can't have a bundle with only 1 branch, can you? Other wise its just a branch with a string attached). When the bundle is unraveled you regain the string used and the last branch in its inventory.

how about something better like weight/volume based inventory instead of the grid based one, or stacking (certain) items, or a multipurpose bag for small items? or maybe just a bigger inventory?

I like the grid based system, though I would like to see your initial inventory be increased as your strength and dexterity rises.

Thats what bundling is for, just need a string and 2 of an item.

Quality could be an issue, trying to pick out higher or lower quality items from the rest of the stack.

increasing the grid with stats doesn't really make as much sense as say, being able to carry 1 extra kilo of stuff per X str

bundle of flour, bundle of worms, bundle of rocks... the only thing bundling makes sense with is branches.

there are many ways around that issue...

Grids are VISUAL and this will always trump any numerical weight system as a form of UI.

OP: you didn't specify bundle size but you intend it to be 1x1 then 9 sticks in a 'bundle' is overkill as your bundle now have ~4 times the density of wood blocks. The most I could see would be 4 sticks in a 1x2 bundle which would be double your load but still be less dense then a block. But what you want could probably be better done with a stack system but that would probably take some work.

i like the idea of stacking. not all items would be stack-able, of course, but branches should go to ~10 and boughs ~5. those are just off the top of my head.
