Now that's better. :)

I think it should based on the direction you cut the tree from. If you're South of the tree, it falls North, East of the tree it falls West etc...

Also logs that fall into objects need to rot or something. We have a few logs in cliffs and houses.

I agree, was thinking that as I read the OP's post. Not sure about rotting though, I have a nice logstore on my property. Though I do also have a log inside my palisade (though literally a single pixel is visible so you can't find it unless you really try hard)

dont move them for a week they turn red
dont move them for 2 weeks they rot away.

move them anytime at all they will reset there rot timer.

also for all the people who cant get to one side of the tree (and the tree only choise is to fall in the water) i rather be able to pick...

Is there actually a tree you can't get to the other side of? Even those against water I think you can usually get to in the shallows.

Still, the smart thing would be if the tree did some kind of collision detection and if an object was in the way of its fall, it fell some other way.

... or fell on the object in question and destroyed it. Bring a whole new danger to cutting down that tree near your house. :)

I've seen plenty of these on the river. I usually cut them into boards and then buckets as I pass by boat, and drop the buckets into the water. Which means you can get the logs in the deep water using a boat. The boards you cut won't be lost into the water, only the stuff you drop yourself.
