Farming Fertilizer

Shouldn't there be a way to increase your crops quality without having a high farming skill? Take for example, a new player decides on becoming a farmer, he has a few seeds, but their at really low quality levels. So he makes fertilizer from apple cores, dirt, anything that can be composted, and lays it on the plowed land. Then he plants the seeds on the fertilized land to make a higher level crop.

There could be many ways of making the fertilizer, such as taking apple cores, seeds, etc., and mix it with dirt. The fertilizer quality can change due to the quality of the dirt or items being put into the fertilizer.

Anyone like this idea?

If a new player decides to be a farmer, seems to me like he ought to work on increasing the farming skill?

more serious answer: what about cow crap as fertilizer, that seems like the most natural choice..or maybe it could just make the crops grow a bit faster.

The rose with crap grows faster but blooms at the same time as the one with out.

All plants with the 'crap' grow bigger and stronger, more healthy and blah blah blah

then that actually makes shit a good fertilizer. it does not make it grow faster, but increases quality, and that is what i want game fertilizer to do. i don't give two shits about making it grow faster.

A compost heap and fertilizer sounds good. Also; committing slash and burns techniques on an unsuspecting forest could make for some great farmland/rejuvenate the forest.

About the shit as fertilizer bit, I read somewhere that human shit would actually be better for plants. I'm not sure if introducing regular bowel movements, or worse, irregular ones, would really improve the game, though.
