More skins in a tanning tub?

Postby nick-the-sushi » Sun Apr 04, 2010 7:02 pm

Well today I was trying to tan some rabbit fur, but I can only put one in a tub. I was thinking, since they're only 1x1, we should be able to put more in one tub. Yes I know that the tubs are meant for large pelts, like bear skin, too, but we should still be able to put smaller ones into a single tub together. Making more tubs just takes up room :\

That's the point. It's easier to get leather if you aim for something a little larger than a defenseless fwuffy bunny. :twisted:

The thing is I can't kill anything else because:

a)I can't make any armor or weapons because i have no mine/rustroot to find/make a mind
b)Bunnies are so much easier. But still :p

Oh, quick Qs:

1)How do you find Inkweed
2)If you tame a ram/cow thing, can you slaughter it without it eating you?

Make a sling with 5 strings, chip off some rocks, and fence in an animal with started-construction signs (such as fires) or attack it from boat.

Just get loads more of them then :p

Exploration * perception required. Not sure exactly how much. I'm also not sure if it's a coincidence, but I had never seen inkweeds but then saw 3 of them in a row on plains (grassland)

Yes, but to tame it you have to kinda engage it in combat.

Im ok with the rabbit skin/tub thing, since it kinda scales the game...but all the way from the first map, I have been wondering why we need 6 buckets of water. That just seems annoying, and tanning/leatherworking is already the worst professsion for getting LP. 3 buckets, anyone?

What you should really be asking, is how the hell can someone with 10 str carry so much? :P 6 buckets of water = 60l = ~60kg mass. Plus the weight of the tub, assume about 15kg. Put two of them in a boat, that's 150kg + probably another 100kg of boat. We can then pick up a boat weighing about 250kg and walk for several minutes without problems :lol:

Not to mention you could potentially have another 6 buckets in your inventory with a backpack, for at least another 60kg.

Just thought I'd throw that one out there.

What does the bolded and underlined part mean?

Yeah, I don't know why a tub can't hold separate skins.

I also think it could use less water.

Yea tanning is really screwy right now, with the cart glitch and single hide kind of canceling out. I think it would be wise to do a top-to-bottom fix on the system rather then address it piecemeal. I'd recommend the following.

* make tub at least 3x3
* allow it to be filled with more then one hide
* make Bear-hide 3x3 (provides 9 leather)
* make cow/deer 2x3 (provides 6 leather)
* provide a little LP for each irreversible action in leather making (adding water and bark, removing leather?)
* Fix cart glitch
* allow asynchronous leather curing (like a drying rack each item 'ticks' separately)
* re-balance leather making time (shorter might be better, maybe above changes will be adequate on their own)
