Annexing villages

Postby Justicar » Sun Apr 04, 2010 10:27 pm

Since our satellite villages are dying off, what about allowing to salvage that is salvageable? Give us the ability to annex other villages.

What it means? Basically the lawspeaker of the village capitulates to the lawspeaker of another village. The village is annexed to the other village.

What happens next?

a.) The village is merged to the other village. It becomes an extension of the main village, it's lawspeaker and chief lose their titles.

b.) The annexed village continues to exist. They have a lawspeaker and a chief, as they used to be. Their authority actions are limited, and the chief/lawspeaker of the main village can overrule them. The authority pools of the two villages are combined.

I think it is a good idea, and had a similar one. My idea allowed for the creation or assimilation of satellite villages, colonies or even just strong allies. Power structure could be flexible, kind of like the way claims allow different levels of access. Instead of authority being pooled, it would be transferred between village entities, with a penalty for distance. Villages could have the option of viewing the authority of another village, and either make lump sum authority transfers, or have a percentage of each authority gain go to different villages.

This would allow villages to maintain control over resources, but at a cost that increases with distance.

Annexation and federation will definitely be coming in some form or another. It isn't yet clear just what form and just when, though. Not that Jorb and I don't have ideas of our own, but please do discuss.

Perhaps a level above village, 'Kingdom', 'Empire' etc etc. One village acts as the Capitol and can have any number of other villages 'sworn' to it. The sworn villages might get a trickle of authority from the capitol as that's now something people are desperate to get, the capitol gains a several thousand authority bar capacity for each sworn village and must keep its authority above a high threshold or else the trickle of authority stops and sworn village is freed, this consequently prevents the capitol from being inadvertently sucked dry. Distance could act to limit the rate of authority trickle to encourage regional groupings. The members of the Capitol could gain travel access to the sworn villages, but not visa-verse (feudal masters frequently visit their vassals not the other way around) and players would probably work out some other 'rent' terms as well.

The idea of kingdoms and empires has been worked out very well in another (ver very long) thread.
