Tutorial

Postby Thijssnl » Mon Apr 05, 2010 11:56 am

I think a lot of problems people have while playing the game could be fixed by a proper explanation.
Ofcourse there is a wiki, but not everyone will want to browse all articles before playing.
Also, Jackard wrote (or at least posted) a tutorial, but that one only covers the beginning and some very basic things with text.

I think it would be a good thing to either have an ingame-tutorial (with the option to skip), giving a new player some basic skills and explaining how to use them, and removing the basic skills after the tutorial, or a very detailed video/gallery of pictures with text.

If they ARE given the basic skills they should be taken away from them once they exit, maybe just put a door in the original starting room that leads to a tutorial room? Maybe a runestone that says tutorial next to it too.

Ah yes, forgot to say that, ofcourse I meant it like that :) Thanks

Edit: the OP said on try out, I meant pretty much they lose them when they begin to play with that.
Isnt that clear? :/

Nope, the OP said nothing about losing the basic skills once they begin the real playing. :|

'On try out' pretty much means they can have them to try out, and them lose them
Edit: Edited the OP anyway

Yeah, I agree with an optional tuturial/walkthrough, at start-up or elsewhere, even though it has been mentioned before. It would need an experienced hand to put a vid-tutuorial together (that would be best imo), if only I wasn't so g'damn tech challenged, I'd give it a go.

An in-game tutorial is planned, but don't expect it anytime soon.
It will probably be implemented through various quests.
I, myself, liked the tutorial system in WoW. Very intuitive and out-of-the-way.

After rethinking, I dont agree.
Quests dont make sure people do not drown, and a sandbox shouldnt have quests.
A short tutorial describing all skills/giving them to new chars on test and removing after tut and learning them how to use them should work out good.

The quest system jorb was thinking about didn't sound like a classic quest system, it was mentioned in the context of wyrd and the learning system in general. I cba to find the post now though.
