Claim boats

Postby Onionfighter » Fri Apr 09, 2010 7:10 am

Lately, I have been living out of a boat. It would be nice if there was a way to put a bed in it and to claim it like a lean-to.

I also want to be able to call lots of other objects my property, despite whether they are in my claim or not.

A barge with a house on it would be cool. As would a combination of a cart and a house that you could hitch to horse or pull around yourself. Maybe you could install a lock on the door, so that you would need either the key or high tresspassing to enter, but if you enter without using the key you leave scents? You could of course leave the door unlocked so frirnds could enter without needing trespassing or leaving scents.

Personally i think you should be able to take one bigger boat (when/if implented) that you can connect a travel item to. So if you'd be disconnected you can travel to "My boat" And ofcourse you can name it and live in it. Bigger boats are awesome (and have already been suggested a million times! C'mon J&L give us our boats D:)

Ya I'd definitely want bigger boats, the small boats we have right now are lame. And please, don't make them cost metal, not everyone has fucking metal.

The problem with the claim mechanic is that it encourages you to hermit down on one spot. He could, if he wanted, store two dreamcatchers in his boat's hold and set up a new little claim around it every time he stopped, but that's a major hassle. We need some sort of object-based claim system as an alternative. Perhaps make it so he can use some dreams to enchant his boat with the same sort of power as a claim. This would allow him to own any space in say a 5x5 area around his boat, and when it's stopped he could pay a little LP to extend it out to say... 11x11? This allows him to be a traveler and yet have possessions. Currently there's no way to roam like that unless you want to either set up a new claim every time you log off or just do it all on foot with nothing but a backpack and your inventory. The later works ok but it really can't be done as seriously.

If we had some sort of mobile claim alternative which was limited in size but gave the person at least enough space to keep a hold of their things (granted this would work better with a larger boat that had more space in it) then perhaps you'd find people who prefer the wandering lifestyle of mapping and foraging and exploring for hidden things more than the life of homesteading for wheat fields.
