Mead

You should be able to brew mead by combining, honey, hops and water (possibly a herb of some sort as well) in a cauldron then left in a barrel to ferment. Mead could be drunk from a special mug carvable from a boar horn and would restore a large amount of stamina and would grant a buff called "liquid courage" that grants bonuses to your strength and constitution, the downside is that if you drink more than one draught a hour you start temporarily losing stats.

I can definitely get behind more booze and general booze differentiation. However most of what you suggested is actually pretty much implemented by the two currently extant types of booze. (See the last bullet in the list about the buffs 'A Glass with a Friend' and 'A Glass to Keep the Cold Out')

One thing I really, really, really don't want to see is more proliferation of liquid-specific drinking receptacles. I am already pretty tired of YOU MUST DRINK X FROM Y. NO EXCEPTIONS. (I could see bonuses for drinking from the right receptacle - e.g. wine from a wine glass, beer from tankard, or a penalty to quality for drinking from the wrong one.) If I want to drink my Scotch out of a hip flask instead of a bagpipe or whatever, I should damn well be able to.

Heck, I could see making the waterskin accept any liquid, sort of like barrels. That'd give them an actual use* after you have access to leather. (At least I assume barrels accept all liquids I could be wrong).

*well, except wine buckets would still be superior if this happened tomorrow.

I said you could drink it out of a mead-horn, not you must drink it out of one.

As for the buffs, I could swear reading that they were removed.

EDIT: Just checked the wiki, I was wrong, how about bonus lp for killing things instead? (Think tea for fighters.)

Well, that was as much a rant about how jorb and loftar have insisted on a new fancy glass for drinking from for each type of liquid. That's how the design has been thus far and, if booze is going to be retooled/expanded, really should be addressed.

As for the buffs, I could see different types being specialized towards certain tasks (and presumably points given). Beer could be the smithy worker's friend (+STR, +PSY), Wine would uh, increase INT and CHA for all those fancy city types earning authority?, and Mead could be the hunters brew (greater STR bonus, CON, maybe something directly related to the combat system).

I'm not sure if increased LP gain is the best way to go, though that could certainly differentiate them. If it stacks with the generic bonus with tea, it wouldn't totally outmode that. (And I don't think simply being specialized is sufficient, because people would just drink whatever was appropriate for the job they were about to do). And I'm not loftar (or much of a programmer) but I don't know if the system can easily tell where the LP is coming from, so it might not be worth it especially since they're eventually going to drop LP in favor of a different progression method.

Thanks for the insight, I like the idea of specialized brews with different stat buffs, mainly I just wanted to see mead in the game and thought it would be pretty cool as a warriors brew. If anyone else has any thoughts feel free to post them.
