Pitch, oil, ect.

Thoughts on the further development of Haven & Hearth? Feel free to opine!

Pitch, oil, ect.

I had an Idea just now, the idea of Pitch, or oil.
Pitch/Oil could be used for a number of things, including lamps (sort of a longer lasting, refillable torch?), fuel (so we dont have to go on a tree rampage), and even for use in weaponry (boiling pitch?) also could be used for building bigger boats by being used as tar, to make a boat waterproof?, Pitch could be used in some buildings to seal cracks, ect? and could be a replacement for bone glue, or substitute atleast?

It would be found using prospecting, and found in the swamps not containing leeches (green ones). It would require a platform/dereck to harvest, and could be refined later?

an example of this could be from the stronghold series, which uses pitch in a variety of uses

Edit :i can't seem to figure out how to post pics, so here's the link : http://stronghold.wikia.com/wiki/File:Pitch_rig.gif#filelinks

Edit: another good example http://www.stronghold-knights.com/site/album/SH2Buildings/pitch_rig.jpg

I don't think people in the middle ages built oil derricks, I'm pretty sure they just harvested it when it boiled up to the surface. Other than that I see no immediate problems.

I think Pitch/Tar were extracted from extracted from Pine wood, similar to how turpentine is made.
