3 branches, 2 strings and 1 stone required.
Can be used both as a melee weapon or ranged one(marksmanship needed instead of melee in this case) if thrown.

Yeah the picture is quality 1 since I used paint, but it was just for an idea :D

Cause I'd love wandering around with bear cape and spear, that's so...uhm... wow 8-)

spears? sure, but considering al weapons of any signifiant damage require metal the spear either has to be the same, or have laughable damage. else its just to easy

Nice spear.
Spear is an ordinary and very powerful weapon. But it was discussed before.. as spear would need an additonal set of combat actions, graphics etc
It can hardly fit in current assortment of weapons. Tho it would be very nice and much more real than some bay12 axes etc..

I believe more weapon variety implementation is awaiting a few other modifications to combat.

There needs to be a melee weapon for those of us without access to mines. A single spear can't compete head-to-head with a sword, obviously, but a village of farmers armed with spears might stand a chance of repelling single raiders/griefers. Also, spears would be appropriate for hunting boar without resorting to traps!

There's stone axe. It actually deals more damage than militia sword, IIRC.

Oh, didn't know that.

Perhaps spears could grant a tile of distance when attacking, helping those of us with leather armor vs metal armor, imposing a small handicap on stronger players? Once again, I'm not suggesting that a spear by itself will be stronger than a sword...

What about bamboo spears? A new tree species with "bamboo shoots" for cooking? Spikes for booby traps? No, that kinda gets away from the Germanic/Slavic theme. Just kickin' out ideas.

Could always just have a stone spear and a metal spear of differing attack values.

Spears can be thrown.
Spears are better for hunting than swords

Give spears a good chance of breaking when you use them, that makes them less useful to melee, shouldn't be too much of a problem if they use cheap materials
