Barbecue

Takes a common metal bar or two, fuelled with coal, lets you roast meat using cooking skill rather than survival.

Or am I the only one that has cooking much higher than survival?

Awesome idea.

Well, I don't see how you can make a grill without metal. Besides, it's just a fancy way of roasting meat, so it's a luxury item rather than a necessity. Don't see anything wrong with luxury items costing metal.

*edit*
Thanks, Jorb :D
1st of May is pretty much BBQ day over here (going to one in 30 minutes), so the idea practically smacked me in the face.

Smokehouses are an absolute must, and I have thought about them at length. Basically I want the meat to be affected by the smoke you use in some cool way. Burning three oak + 2 hickory walnut + 1 rust root = X. Also should be a wyrd heavy place whenever we get to that.

If it's going to be real BBQ then some sort of cooking based on time should really spice things up. After all, BBQ isn't something you cook in 20 minutes. That's grilling.

So you'd probably need some system that requires you to throw fuel on the fire once and a while. Possibly in a set up like an oven, so you can cook multiple pieces of meat. Slow cooking is a very good way to make poor, tough, cuts of meat into something delicious, so BBQ and other methods could be used to let you make a final product that's vastly superior to just roasting. Either raising the QL or providing more FEP for your ... uh... meats.

Edit: Another useful cooking tool for slow cooking would be a dutch oven. Which could be buried in the coals left from fires to make stews.
