Hearth Fire Travelling

Postby Shafin25 » Sun May 09, 2010 3:41 am

I've realised the there was a bug with where the cahracter logged off after updates and I couldn't log back on and had to start a hearth fire. This is really bad, I mean, I WALKED over TWO supergrids trying to reacha new village, the nBAM a CRASH and then I ahd tos tart again. Can we have a way of teleporting to our buddy's hearth fire? I'm sorry, but this is just too much, I wasted two hours IRL to walk and in the end it was worthless. I can't stand unable to teleport to my mate's hearth fire.

So, in total:

I would like a Teleporting to Kin's Hearth Fire.

If they have permissison.
Why make a new character when you wish to join a friend? Just walk on and never give up! When you do, you'll have realised you arrived.

Would bring inmore problems than it solves.

Most issues with logging in is due to logging in where you don't have access or someone moving your boat now, since it seems if you were lifting something you are now logged back in 'near' it, with it moved a bit.

The problem with me is that I cas unable to log in where I was and I couldn't even select the "Where your character logged off" option.

I think this would be great. I mean, imagine starting a new character and your friend owns a village. But you didn't know that when you started so you started in the wilderness. That person would have to walk heaps just to get to there friends village. If your saying, "Why not make a new character?" Well... Imagine you had a months worth of skills with that one character, you wouldn't want to start again. So in my opinion. We should have this. :D

I'm fully aware of what you mean. This happens because the only way to be on that person's grounds is to have Criminal Acts on. If you weren't on someone's plot and had this problem, did you log off in a boat? Someone might have stolen it from under you (Game would want to spawn you in thewater), it's beter off you're 3SG away than you're dead, no? Further explanation of what you were doing before logging out helps people know what the problem is, either way suggesting such a thing would be too problematic.
1)If you could warp there for free as is the case with your own Hearth Fire, travel would be too simple, and there seems to be talk of fast-travel being done away with soon anyhow.
2)If it would take the required AGI to get there, there are already options for setting something like this up.

If you played a month and were that bothered, you'd probably have enough knowledge to make it there, and if it was truly that far (like across the map) restarting would probably be better (just move your slider towards traditional over the course of a few days so you don't lose as much LP), depending on how far they really got. Otherwise it's probably not THAT bad, and they can village warp in these cases (especially since you said the y own a village).
IF the character was fresh, buy swimming, kill self, recycle.

Well, thing is. It's the size of a large village. But the owners can't be bothered putting the village posts or whatever they are up. They say it's to much work. So... There goes your idea.

There would be no reason not to, and a village claim is very VERY simple to put up, kill 2 bears, a few deers, and you should have most of the stuff. Not to mention village chat beats the shit out of party chat.

I see that your whole theoretical idea is just made to support this argument, so I'll throw out one more example and then stop bothering since you'll probably change the criteria :P
Experienced player
1) - Pump AGI, warp there to village, have them set up village claim
2)Walk there
3)Ride a boat there, fastest way usually.
4)Kill your dude, start over there

New player
1)Walk there or attempt to warp to village if not too far
2)Start new character
3)Kill dude, start new character

Its not like this is a big issue, and considering OPs issue of being caught in a server crash or restart, they have already started fixing a few things, for example I've had a few crashes IN boats CARRYING boats, it seems they are now moved aside so you can safely log in instead of "Aww WARP to hearth", there are still a few exceptions, but for the most part this is the case.

This wouldn't help OP at all however, what are the chances of having a character nearby to warp to, assuming what OP really meant was having an alt, not a friend, since what the hell would a friend be doing 3SG away exactly where the boat crashed? :P

I was walking to Drasmatic's location, I do not wish to start a new character, and it's my own choice. I have alts but all of my alts are everywhere and not in that place, so I decided to walk there, after a long while, it just crashed suddenly.

Have you thought about how this could be abused by just plopping down alts everywhere?

It might suck for your specific problem, but this game isn't meant to hold hands everywhere, you have other options: Restart, or walk again.

It's way too abusable.
