Caves and Water skin/Flask

Is there any other reason for a cave then a mine hole?

What about adding a salt resource in there or an aquifer for higher quality water, soil or sand.

Also,

What is the point of the water flask holding 2L and the water skin holding 3L when they take up the same amount of space?

With water flask you can carry 25% more water on the same space (2 flasks = 4L on 2 tiles, waterskin 3L on 2 tiles), upside for waterskin is that you don't need to tan a hide - you can created it from a dried one. In case you want more water with you a bucket and a flask are items of choice (12L on 5 tiles).

I guess, I just dont see the point in having the same item 2 times.

Any thoughts about caves gaining some usefulness though? Through salt, water, soils etc...?

They produce cave bulbs and are used as cheese cellars by people with out metal. Rumor has it that in future the devs intend to put trolls into them and make them very dangerous.
