Increase Torch Radius

Postby Brickbreaker » Mon May 10, 2010 11:21 pm

Couldn't use pacho's today so I decided to use a torch to look for cavebulbs, but then I realized it simply wasn't plausible to usea torch.
The light radius is much too small and needs to be made bigger (imo it should light up the entire screen for you like the move flash in pokemon).

Increase Torch Luminosity

Postby Jackard » Mon May 10, 2010 11:25 pm

agreed

additionally, Increase Torch Luminosity

There are three levels of light. The inability to reach maximum brightness even by carrying two torches is ridiculous. it should only require one

lightmap sucks ass period. Better suggestion:

Remove it. Find another thematic way to give ambiance to night & day.

Implement night vision, so that when you're close to a fire, the dark looks darker, but as you move away from fires your sight slowly (not too slowly) adjusts so that you can see pretty well in the night.

Also increase the radius of lights quite a lot.

and, obviously, with higher perception, you adjust to it faster?
But then there'd need to be something else, if we're talking about adjustments.
Ever been in the dark for a long time and quickly turn all the lights on? Pain in the ass.
So basically, you'd have to adjust to the light again, by lighting some kind of fire in the cave again. Rushing outside would result in... maybe... 5 hits on your SHP? or temporary perception debuff?

that sounds as though it would encourage players not to build fires.

Maybe...

I don't mean for the transition to last more than a few seconds...

Personally I kind of like the light and dark effect from a purely aesthetic level. I would like for the game to keep that effect, while preventing it from hampering gameplay, does that make sense?

the only reasonable course of action is to give torches max illumination and a large light radius, say twenty tiles ala Diablo

The brightness of the torch should be dependent on the quality of the materials and survival.
