Crossroad security

Postby Coriander » Wed May 12, 2010 6:00 pm

Village Crossroads are both a boon and a vulnerability.
I suggest some security measures, like a password, be included in the crossroads concept.
With the correct password the crossroad to the village works, without it, it does not.
The password should be easy to change by the village Law-speaker (or Chief).

Edit: Perhaps two types of crossroads would be better one with security and one without.

There is security: simply don't attach signs to crossroads in the village to signposts you don't have under control.

Nope, does not work out like that. You give your sign to an Allie for trade purposes, they get raided.
Now you are an easy target.
Things can change and your security is only as good as the weakest link in the chain.

dont place a route for your ally to inside your walls then, i mean its a crossroad, not a security system. all it does is point you to how to reach other crossroads its got a map(sign) of.

First of all: Read the security thread Avu made.

Past that, don't give your sign to others if this is a problem to you, unless you've been to their village and have seen that their security matches yours, don't even consider it, their crossroad that leads to any other village should be palisaded or brickwall'd if they have the resources, if it's not don't even consider it! Even when considering this never give them access where they could get in your town without tearing down at least a few walls to do so, your crossroads should be seperate from your town (perhaps with a brickwall gate leading to it), no room to do too much but enough where they can't end up inside your gate by continous warping.

You can give charter stone access to people you want to port to you. You just need to temporarily swear them into you village (it would be neat if this wasn't necessary).

Yea, and no way of exiling them without seeing them face to face (at least i didn't manage to do it when trying with an alt, in case there is a way please enlighten me how it works).

So instead of porting to idol they would wait for lawspeaker being offline and then can have fun in your village.

No good plan, better stick to a crossroads outside your walls.

*sigh*
Do I really have to explain every detail?

1. Get trade partner to come to your charterstone.
2. Put up aggro on him, so he can't log out or port away before you can revoke his membership.
3. Have him adopt charterstone.
4. Have him leave village / exile him.
5. Drop aggro.
6. ???
7. Profit.

Heh, I originally posted this in the "suggestions" area, but the response I got is better for the "how to" area.
(A moderator might want to relocate this thread there...)
Thanks for the excellent response!
