Some cosmetic stuff

Thoughts on the further development of Haven & Hearth? Feel free to opine!

Some cosmetic stuff

Postby Danila » Wed May 26, 2010 12:56 pm

I haven't found this with search but maybe I'm just blind. Game balance is a really fragile thing but how about some cosmetic creatures? Like birds. Eventually flying above etc. Do you remember that green parrot in D II in II act xD ? And someone was talking about gunpowder, but how about nitrate + charcoal == fireworks and stuff for fun and maybe happiness o.O

I think cosmetic additions would be great, though at the moment the devs are still tweaking things to improve playability. I'm not sure is fireworks would violate the tech level/setting, but since we have tea, pepper, iron age stuff mixed in with bronze/stone age stuff, the only worry I see is the unrealistic introduction of guns, to what feels like dark ages Europe. There are a lot of things in the line, like different hair colours or clothing colours, that a lot of people want but are waiting until other issues are resolved.

But it would make a feast AWESOME.

Seeing Jorb's interpretation of the anatomy of birds would certainly be interesting.

Birds will most likely be eventually updated since if you read the tree climbing thread you'll notice 'raiding birds nests'.

Due to this doubt you'll see birds before that. :)

Charcoal and potassium nitrate dont makes the black powder,we need suphur too. Fireworks and bombs will be cool! maybe some chinesse/japanesse things too like katanas, japan styled homes...

As much as I'd like more weapon/armour/building designs, I doubt chinese/japanese elements would fit in the setting at all. As far as I understand we're in a nordern European/slavic setting sometime in the dark ages.

Now this culture didn't really have a lot of contacts with far east cultures, and during our dark ages they also had a more enclosed (aka no strangers) approach (Japan didn't really want to open their markets to foreigners until the americans forced them to at gun (cannon) point sometime after the industrial revolution (Last samurai movie is at the end of that historical period).

It would be more likely for us to get some new plants/items related to the native american cultures of the time, since vikings did actually explore that far west oversees centuries before Columbus went there...
