More Buildings

So that`s idea:
Just imagine a real-life village. Few houses and crops, of cource. But no anvils, smelters and cows under sun. There are special buildings for it IRL - so why don`t we use it? Lesser mess would be good.
For example, blacksmith`s shop. You can place anvils, smelters and other smithy`s stuff inside of it.
Or, maybe, mews? You can place there food troughs - and, of course, sheeps, cows and horses(when they`ll be implemented).
These buildings would give a bonus of quality to all actions made inside of them, depending on their own quality.
So what do you think about it?
P.S. Sorry for my bad English.

Well, it's not a bad idea, but it would lead to every hermit having a towns worth of buildings, one for each thing he did. Not to mention that a carpenter's workshop is just a house with carpentry tools in it.

What we really need- and J&L have backed of on this for some reason- is custom buildings. Put up some thatched walls and stone doorframes and what have you, and let us make our hemit shacks and Goon fortresses and everything. That's a whole topic unto it'self, so I won't go into detail here, but that's what would end this whole problem once and for all.
Surprise.

Yeah, that would be great. Setting up building walls like you do defensive ones until they enclose an area and then turning that enclosure into a building with an interior space would be ideal.

They backed off on custon buildings? Why is that?

Couldn't agree more on a custom building/terraforming system like Dwarf fortress.

i would settle for modules that you can add to the outside and inside of a building. Such as an oven module for the inside (that maybe adds a chimney to the roof) and room mods that you build on the outside and either adds more floor space, or an actual room.

Yeah, this has been suggested a bunch of times, but the devs never seem keen on it. Loftar cites structural integrity problems, Jorb cites asset development problems.

I think they gave it a good try long long ago before the server was public (I saw some screenshots) and ran into some barriers.

Might I suggest, then, that we customize the end size of the building, and then select from a number of graphics based on size, and then just make the inside lay out customizable. Insides of buildings don't take up space on the outside world, and they don't require new drawing and painting from Jorb.

For example, you would select say, 5 by 5 foot print, and X levels to work with, which would give you X internal floors and rooms to place once the building is finished. Doorways and stairs can be placed like cellar doors are now. You would just select the graphic available that fits what you want your building to look like, and build it. Then you'd go inside and start building stairways, doors to other rooms.

More different looking buildings would be good yes, would make village look more like village. Maybe give log cabin a brother, stone cabin. Would that be hard to make, just copy log cabins code and change its walls and roof into stone & straw. Building materials and decays/hp's too ofc.

Ganska behaga ;)
