Show if damage is being done when destroying

Postby Pansy » Sun Jun 06, 2010 7:12 pm

I'd like to see a way to tell if damage is actually being done or not when a character or a bunch of characters with a ram are trying to destroy something.

Say my quite new character has been trying to clean up a bunch of half built looms that someone has left around the place where she is settling. She can bash away at it for ages and use up all her stamina, but I don't know if she is making any headway or not. It would be good to have a meter so that you could see if any of your hits is doing any damage or if she should go fish for sturgeon and come back when her strength is 10 points higher.

YOu can click on a brickwall and get an hourglass. The hourglass does not mean your doing any damage.

Yeah but you will see that you deal no damage because the hourglass won't change.

It would reduce confusion as well as tell you how much damage you're doing. Knowing that numbers are supposed to show up would help newbies to know there are some things that they need more strength to destroy. Otherwise, it just looks like something has a massive HP meter, which you later frustratingly learn you spent a half-hour making no progress on. There's no indication that the progress meter will or will not ever indicate any progress.

This game could stand some help with its learning curve. Soak is not an obvious attribute.
Come back two hours earlier.

Well sometimes you might be doing damage but it might take you an hour or so to break the wall (of course now you cant break walls)... but before if you barely met the requirement it could take you an hour to break a wall. its not very easy to tell if your actually doing anything.

Also if your using a RAM you dont get an hourglass if i remember correctly so its impossible to tell.

I'm a fan of this change, I recently wanted to destroy some milestones, and it took me longer than is desirable to figure out if I was not breaking it or if it was just happening slowly

so the idea is to let numbers appear over the "attacked" object, like they do when you "equppid" leeches?

like it

in my first month of game, i've spent the whole mont trying to destroy a decayed wall with my noob chara.
I reallized that the damage was 0 only after a while (it was unlogic for me), so, what's bad on showing damage efficently?
