Alternative fishing gear system

Postby Nobody » Tue Jun 08, 2010 10:32 am

I was fishing for last couple of weeks, and current system was frustrating me. I'll try to explain in a nutshell:

Equipped rod, started fishing.
Minute later. Caught one fish. Line brokes, going back to home, taking new, equipping it, going back fishing.
Two minute later. Nothing caught, line broken again. Same travelling, fishing again.
(loop last two lines of text several times, replacing word "line" with "hooks" and other stuff)
Fishing result: full chest of gears lost in half an hour.

Yes, sometime there are 5-10 minutes of continuous fishing, but they are rare.

What i propose:
Get rid of random loosing gears. Make so, that gear will loose Q while fishing just like symbel items while feasting, until their Q become 0 and they desappear. Low Q roots will break much sooner, than Q100 fibres. Hooks made out of rabbit bone by noob will die sooner than hooks made out from iron by good smith, and it makes sence, isnt it?

Pros and cons? Discuss?

Obviously a steelbrush plunger should going to last longer than a woodfish, regardless of quality (compare a gold plate's decay to that of a Poppy Garland).

I like OP suggestion.

I find consistence of mechanic rules makes the world seem more real - just with another set of Physics than our own.
In this case, it would make sense if symbel and fishing decay followed the same template.

Sounds like a great idea to reuse a system already in place.
