Civ Census countermeasure

Postby Raephire » Mon Jul 13, 2009 5:37 pm

I understand that the Ring of Brodgar, hearthfires, and village idols push back the danger, but I believe that the density of a forest should push back against it.

As it stands right now, anyone can make a town in the furthest depths of mordor, and if they do so near a forest, (As they have done so to the great forests , thus destroying hunting there) What I am suggesting is that fir trees should push against civilization. The more dense the forest the stronger the animals, the more it pushes against civilization.. Which makes sense.

This would create a unique balance and keep the game playable while limiting necessary expansion.

At this moment, we need the map widened, SEVERELY, north and west at least. But with this suggestion people who are nature specked would not only be able to replant fir trees to keep forests populated, and eventually harvest them for wood again. But more so, they could increase the level of hunting and even have private forests and maintain the level of dificulty.

Now the Ring of Brodgar is significantly powerful, even if someone were to plant firs thickly there, no level X bears would spawn. at worst a level 4 might.

Please consider this.

Given the number of folks clear cutting lately, I'm afraid this would not help enough. but some kind of countermeasure is needed - it's way too easy to take an area from level IV to level I. I want to live near hunting, have some community and some protection - but that doesn't seem to be possible at this point.

Ah fuck where did the forest go.

I like the idea, but I think that in general civ census should be shorter range. That would be a simpler way to make hunting possible again. Perhaps both leveling strategies should be implemented, to varying degrees.

Hmm, maybe if tree's are planted by certain types of people, the effect would be greater. If a Cheiftain with full nature planted a forest, it'd have a much greater effect then a cheiftain with full industry, but both would be better than a full nature or industry.

Yeah most people do. Just saying. Heh. Plus, doesn't go walling in a forest go against your rule of trying to keep forests open for everyone?

I agree with making the range of civ smaller. I think it should make a difference in the local area, but only large villages (such as bottleneck) should have a big range.
