marksmanship

i think we should be able to significantly increase the damage that is done with arrows. if a melee fighter makes like 60+ damage per casual hit and a unarmed gets the same while i do like 20+ with my bow theres something unbalanced.
not to mention the lack of combat moves and maneuvers for ranged...

I think a big upgrade of marksmanship is on the cards and has been for a while now... Do you think it's really urgent though? I definitely don't think they should do it before path finding

I think it should come out WITH pathfinding. Otherwise, ranged hunters will be in deep trouble...and it kinda makes more sense to me to go hunting with a bow and arrow than with a battleaxe. I`m pretty sure I know which would get you more deer meat in RL.

You know, the spear, especially in its form of a sharpened stick, is probably the most basic weapon there is, barring only a big rock or flinging poo.
I totally support the addition of spears!

How's this for spears:
They're melee weapons with range, just about enough to hit someone over another person that's fighting your target.
Spears are slower than swords and do less damage total, but have bonus against armour.
A successful hit with a spear pushes your opponent back just outside spear's maximum range.
Moving from outside the spear's range into sword range grants one free attack to the spear wielder.

1 - Your suggestion appears more detailed than necessary
2 - This particular item makes spears ridiculously overpowered, ability to set vs charge at the most, certainly no push back

I've heard they wanted to link archery to perception. But to me it doesn't make sense. It costs strength to draw a bow. And the better you draw it, the heavier a bow can be and the more damage you do.

Spears should be implemented when mounts appear.
The ones who see things differently.

You can praise them, disagree with them, quote them, disbelieve them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can't do is ignore them.
And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius.

Spears would definitely be something I'm interested in seeing. However, I'm a marksman at heart, so I'm flat-out excited to hear pathfinding (and hopefully by extension a full treatment for marksmanship) is on the way.

As far as perception, I think it's less to make sense and more to be gamist. If you need high strength for all fighting types, then you can (with a high enough LP investment) be pretty darn good at all of them. There's also a long-standing tradition of keen dexterity and eyesight being important to ranged combat in games, in my experience, though that probably means nothing to J&L. I certainly would like perception to actually be a factor, but wouldn't complain about needing minimum strengths for bows.
