Barns as pause button for livestock

Postby theTrav » Thu Jul 01, 2010 4:22 am

Not entirely sure how appropriate this is, but my upcoming holiday has gotten me thinking about livestock and how, currently, they represent a fairly harsh need to be at your farm making them food, every day, without fail.

Chickens you can just take out of the coop and put back in later, cows however, starve.

I was thinking maybe if you could put them in some sort of structure (doesn't necessarily have to be the typical amish red barn) and while in there they don't require food, but don't mature/get pregnant/do any other cow stuff... Kind of like the cart stasis field.

Alternatively, just have a literal pause button on the cow info screen, or maybe a tap shaped udder icon?

don't chickens starve if they're out of the coop too long?

Perhaps grass that actually regrows? You'd need a large pasture per animal, but it would be worth it.

Well bugger! I'm glad you told me that before I went on holiday.

In that case I add to my suggestion that chickens should only require food when in the coop, used for breeding
