Coal mining

Postby JustasJ » Sat Jul 03, 2010 3:26 pm

We already have metal mines, but let's have coal ones as well.

Coal mined there could be used as fuel instead of wood in the smelting or baking processes.

Mined coal would be of greater quality than typical branches thus making a way for making high quality items easily.

Coal mines could also be a place to search for diamonds in.

Any thoughs?

How do you set the quality for coal?

Also, how do you get diamonds from a coal mine? Perhaps your knowledge of geology is different to mine, but I don't beleive they come from coal seams.

Same way you do for metals, I guess?

They don't, in most cases. Naturally, diamonds are mined separately, but we don't want to have diamond mines, since it would make them a common place item, wouldn't it?

Diamonds are igneous, coal is sedimentary. You'll never find diamonds in a coal seam.

That's funny, because metal's quality is determined after it's been smelted. I doubt you're going to try smelting coal.

Useless in the long run, it's practically just fuel.

Not to mention Hearthland Warming.

Maybe have coal add several 'ticks' of fuel per coal, at the same quality of fuel as the last entered item. Would be a good way to stretch out supplies, and make it possible to do smithing without use of the timer bug.
