I think is possible and not very difficult make automatic changes in terrain that reflect what the players do. Example: Cut all trees and the terrain become arid, or plant them for make a arid one become forested, you need water for that, plant close to river and go to the arid area.
Or floods, 2 years ago I live in an area that flood a lot and lost many thing in every one (in RL).

How much we whait for fox/bears traps or pits?

If I'm not mistaken grass can be planted to make desert land into grassland, trees can be planted on the grassland to make a forested area.
Natural disasters will be a cool feature to have, but it can be very upsetting to log in and find everything gone :(

there is a lot planned for ecology

honestly i doubt we will see traps anytime soon, as much as i would like them
