Oil lanterns

Postby saltmummy626 » Fri Jul 09, 2010 8:06 pm

All this discussion in the updates page over oils and that has made me a bit more confident about submiting this. i saw one other thread about it but it was a bit old and also had to do with boat engines and deep fryers the other one i saw was from last year. Oil lamps or lanterns. they would last longer than torches provide a bit more light. they would require at least one or two metal nuggets and a couple chunks of glass. also you could build lantern posts. once the lantern is on the post, you could open it up like a crucible and see a fuel bar to tell how much fuel is left. you could also do this by right clicking the lantern while its in your inventory. lamps could be made from clay, have less fuel space, and be set on tables or carried. you could also make lanterns from clay too but the clay ones would'nt hold as much oil. refueling them whether they be in your inventory or on a post would be as simple as grabbing a bucket or other container (prolly a bottle) of oil and right clicking it onto the lamp or lantern.

discuss plz.

[edit]
i forgot to mention something for the lamps wick. maybe linen cloth?

Everyone as soon as Loftar tells the server to not distribute objects (and not to accept commands on them) which can't be seen because they're current unlit.

I'm sure this will come at some point.

You'll then still be able to remove the lightmap, but you won't be able to skip on lighting your mine to be able to interact with it.

It would also be nice to use these things to light up your caves and mine shafts. the posts would be liftable and such, but they wouldn't disappear like fires do when the fuel runs out. yes i realize nobody cares about lighting because of pachos, but some day you'll be glad you had your oil lanterns. also bulls eye lanterns. they shine farther than normal lanterns but only in a semi straight line.
