I can understand houses only being place-able in one direction (They should realistically let you choose this while putting it down, whether you have to press some button (Ctrl maybe? or Space?) when putting it down to rotate it and then not being able to be moved after (or having something specific to move it). but there's no reason troughs shouldn't work like chairs and cupboards :/
I know there are many other things that would be improved by being able to be moved in a similar fashion so unless there are already plans to scrap the current way item placement works and all graphics I don't see a reason that it shouldn't besides needing more pictures. For example we have crates and large chests now that take up more than 1 tile (something like 1.5 they don't seem to take up a whole 2, can't tell though), it'd be nice if they could take 2x1 OR 1x2 instead of being confined to a single direction...
