A few suggestions

Postby mastermoo420 » Tue Jul 20, 2010 3:29 am

I just had a few suggestions while playing this game:
- A dump command. I personally think it'd be much easier if we had the choice to dump our inventory onto the ground, dump everything that we have into the construction site that's relevant, and the ability to dump stuff into our cupboards.
- Bigger progress bar. The little orange thing is cool, but for longer procedures, having a longer bar that's bigger and in the middle (because you're not going to be doing anything during whatever process) that shows percentage of completion would be cool.
- Efficient splitting. When you do something like "split" with a block of wood in your inventory, it should consider the space that it'll free up, too P:
- Some kind of queue for actions would be nice. :( I like to save time so, using Warcraft/Starcraft as an example, you could do CTRL+right-click different areas and the unit would use those points as "waypoints" and go to them in order. Something like this for actions would be cool if, as stated before, it doesn't detract from gameplay.
- More on splitting/doing actions. I'm also personally annoyed by how, whenever I do an action like chipping stones or splitting wood, just one extra material is left on the cursor. I'd rather have it on the ground because there's usually nothing you can do with it. P:

Newer Ideas:
- Better pathing. This can be kind of hard since you'll have to design some kind of algorithm taking in account obstacles in the way and the shortest distance and whatnot. But it'd be helpful if my guy didn't get stuck behind tiny construction sites behind trees or stuff like that, lol.
- Rotating camera. A button that can turn the camera 90 degrees CW or CCW with each click would be cool. P: It would make the space someone uses much more efficient since they can correctly see what goes on behind a building or whatever. But this isn't all THAT important.
- Moving via the map. Another idea from Warcraft/Starcraft, it'd be cool if, by click on a place on the map that's on the lower-left corner, in conjunction with the "better pathing" idea, your character would walk automatically to the spot you clicked. In terms of clicks, this should reduce quite a bit, too.
- Screen resolution or something like that. It's kinda awkward how you can have so much sight horizontally, but you can barely see anything vertically. Especially below you since there's that menu in the way (even if you can put it away; I like to keep it up all the time anyways). Plus, I'm pretty new at this game so I got ambushed by a boar because I was walking and couldn't see it coming and avoid it in time. :P More clicks saved here, too (lol), if you require less clicks to move up and down.

Other than that, I'm loving this game! Thanks for all the fun! :)

It may or may not be exactly what you had in mind, but you can hold Control and click on items to drop them on the ground, or hold Shift and click on items to transfer them to whatever other inventory you have open at the moment, including construction sites.

Oh, that does help! :o I guess that's better than what I've been doing, lol. But a complete and automatic dump would be faster. Of course, now that I know this new information, I'm wondering if it'd be worth the time, lol.

I also had another suggestion: When you do something like "split" with a block of wood in your inventory, it should consider the space that it'll free up, too P:

EDIT: Oh, also, if it doesn't detract from the gameplay, some kind of queue for actions would be nice. :( I like to save time so, using Warcraft/Starcraft as an example, you could do CTRL+right-click different areas and the unit would use those points as "waypoints" and go to them in order. Shameless plug (again): viewtopic.php?f=5&t=6587
At least let us wheel the stuff, or - in case of shift-click - use shift-hold to continuously transfer (speed of 3-4 items/second should do it).

Three very insightful ones from mastermoo (btw: welcome) which would imho streamline gameplay (and save clicks, thus server load):

Yep.

Yep, it annoys when you click the next spot you want to move to while traveling and next thing you see it that the toon rubberbands back some tiles and (usually, as murphy's law dictates) gets stuck in some object.

Exactly.

Or give the ability to move and open conainers/signs while holding something in the hand (which would be even better, since then you would be able to eg. put buckets you just used into the container you store it in).

I think the problem with these suggestions is that currently a lot of the inventory and menu things are done server side.

it should also be noted that you can hold shift and use the mousewheel over a container to transfer items to/from your inventory. unless they've recently changed it, it doesn't work for construction sites.

Ahahah thanks for the welcome and the compliment. :) I guess I'm just trying to find ways to make the smoothness of gameplay easier for me, and that just happens to fall under saving clicks/server load. :3

@sabinati: Hmm... I think I know what you're saying, but I'm not entirely sure. P: I guess I'll have to try this when I get home and see how cool it is.

I also decided to put all my suggestions in the first post by editing, and I added a few new ones. P:

+1 to dump all functions. not the first time that one has been discussed.

pathing is known

camera won't be changed forget it.

the map bit is better to wait on until pathing is achieved

as for res; use pacho's client to set a custom resolution.

splitting wood doesn't put an item into the cursor hand but i rather agree that items automatically going into the offhand is highly annoying especially now the resources diminish and digging takes fucking forever no one want's to waste any clay at all what the fuck.

the onyl thing automatic offhand benefits is flour and that's onyl if you're too stupid to do flour correctly.
