The fever is rising, I guess it's all over now.

The current virus could mutate and become a super virus like the second wave1918 virus. Unlikely. The first wave was mild. British troops referred to it as the 3 day flu. It was the second wave that murderous. And it killed young adults aged 20-35 enmass while not killing oldsters. Why? ARDS. acute respiratory distress syndrome. Essential young adults have a very rubust immune system and thats what killed them. Many young adults died within 14 of theor first symptoms. They litteraly toppled over dead.

Their immune system flooded their lungs with immune system countermeasues. Figuratively speaking a thermonuclear war in upper and lower respiratory tracts. The IS killed the village to save the viilage - unfortunately the host died.

Autopsies revealed lungs scorched by enzymes, wreckage of invader cells and host T-cells.

This kind of immune overreaction is called cytokine storm. It is likely that a large number of deaths during the 1918 influenza pandemic were caused by this, and a number of COVID-19 deaths are thought to be linked to this syndrome.

We can hope that the current virus reminds people and governments how badly prepared we still are for some major epidemic. If you think what would happen if corona was more deadly, the result wouldnt be good.
Western countries have good hospitals, but capacity is VERY limited.
I think government should prepare better for diseases that will cause way more patients than the system can handle. For example: stockpiling equipment (tents, beds, medicine, etc) for tens of thousands of people. Make plans to train people for assisting nursing jobs in very short schedule etc.

In my opinion, they a new international organization should be founded, which sole purpose is to prepare for (mostly virus) pandemics. They would have facilities, staff and plans to start researching cure/vaccine/medicine as soon as a new virus has been found. And they should assist countries in preparing for pandemics like these, make reports etc.
Yeah, it would cost, but guess what else costs? Military. Something like spanish flu v2 is bigger threat than war! Costs for organization like this would be quite small when compared to amount that countries use towards their militaries.

Yes, I see any goverment putting a fountain of money to be prepared in case of. Refilling it very often. Certainy, totally possible with current mindset.

Not to say that situations like this, create a baby boom 9 months later.

I am aware that this isn't a boomer killing virus. It just has the highest mortality rate among people aged 40+ and doesn't get really dangerous until 60+. I see these age groups as standing in the way of progress because they are stuck in their ways. They are not open to new possibilities. Their expectations are that everybody should live the way they did. The whole internet is full of ignorance from the older generations about how the world actually works now because they have been retired for decades and their brains hardly work anymore. Few and thinly dispersed are those older than myself who share my vision of the future.

This virus isn't even taking care of very many of them. It's just the greatest hope I have for a societal shift right now and it beats just waiting for them to die of other causes. They are dying anyway. I don't see where the fault is in my relief that they are dying sooner rather than later.

As an aside on mental health... It is very free for me. Firstly the government in Australia provides free mental health services, and if diagnosed continuing mental health support is provided free of charge along with a generous pension starting at $500 per week. Secondly, as a previously serving member of the defence force any mental health support I seek is totally free for me, paid for by the government. This country is handing out free tickets to the mental health pension.

But who trusts shrinks. "Breach of trust"? Those disgusting, clueless destructive brain butchers have done enough damage in my life. You would have to be in a state of total desperation to even consider going anywhere near them. I despise them. No chance of me ever going to seek support from them whatever that is. Sounds like a load of bullshit to me. I'm not letting that kind of poison into my life, not even for $500 per week and drugs I could sell on the street for even more money.

More like a string of them. Never had a good experience although once I was an adult they did no harm I just never saw the point of them. Maybe Australian shrinks are just morons but I don't consider you to be a very good advertisement for their trade either to be perfectly blunt. The whole lot of you really need to work on yourselves but I suppose it's easier to get lost in other peoples problems and ignore your own huh...

@boxofhas Yeah, I confused ARDS.

I don't see how creating new government agencies will change anything. On January 14th the WHO tweeted that there was nothing to the rumors of a viral outbreak in Wuhan. Go look at the timeline. The agency directly responsible for safegarding the world against exactly this sort of viral outbtrak purposefully concealed information regarding our welfare. Why? Fuck if I know, but there it is.

What really happened? The Chinese equivalent of chernobyl; Wuhan was a gigantic open virus reactor spewing viral contagion. At first, the CCP secretly monitored the viral outbreak and only weeks later declared Wuhan an exclusion zone. They rushed in military to seal the zone and then sent in sterilization teams to spray suspected viral hotzones. (liquidators shoveling radioactive blocks of graphite). And the CCP then allowed Chinese visiting home for the new year festivals to fly back to northern Italy and the EU. And California/NYC.
