I wanted to talk a little about these two graphs.

First up we have this graph which shows the second wave in Victoria (some state in Australia). You can see by looking at the graph that it doesn't look that bad. The second wave is much smaller and looks well contained. However what I wanted to talk about was the part underlined in red. By applying a three-day average to the graph you can emphasise mild spikes in numbers and conceal more protracted ones. Which is exactly what they have done here. Along with some other tricks. Take a look at the left side of the chart which has no label and is displayed as a percentage. Percentage of what.



Here is the raw data. I have added two red arrows. The first marks day 1 that masks became mandatory in Victoria. The second red arrow marks seven days after masks were made mandatory in Victoria. However what I wanted to emphasise was the difference in the peaks and troughs between the two charts. The first wave was actually much smaller and shaped like a rounded dome. The first chart was misrepresentative of the data. It also masks the noticeable increase in cases which can be attributed to the mandating of face coverings in public.



This data looks to me as though by wearing some types of masks, while your intentions may be good, you may be unintentionally spreading the virus. I have some suspicions as to how this is happening but I need to find the study referred to in a media article I read. Plus I'm lazy. I'm on holiday.

Take a look at the left side of the chart which has no label and is displayed as a percentage. Percentage of what.

First chart looks could be percentage of positive tests, second the absolute positives.
Would mean that the peak in the second (absolutes) would have been caused by ramping up the quantity of tests.
You should try to find data on tests performed per day to verify this hypothesis.

Would, given the above checks out, be explained by fluctuations in daily tests being performed.

Interesting idea, masks increasing the spread. By what mechanic do you think that this would happen?

Wtf are you guys talking about? Everybody it's gonna get the virus, even us, but as long as I live i won't take no vaccine. Im not an anti-vac thing, but i know those stuffs needs time to research, isn't strange that 6/7 months after the zero patient we got already a vaccine?

If you can follow the conversation on it, read up on a genetics engineering technique called CRISPR. Some of what I've seen goes into the very techincal, others are pretty general and informational if you know basics bout DNA and biology.

The vaccine (or at least two to three of the candidates) was ready in less than two months. The last 5 months have been stage one and two trials. The lab that made it possible has been using CRISPR and refining their genetics techniques working on ebola and other vaccines that have proven difficult to counter using traditional development methods.

I'm not sure about that Russian vaccine. It could be more placebo than actual medicine, or worse, snake oil. That's one of my concerns, too. Some of these vaccines that get developed and sold may be less effective than others, to having no effect at all (or worse). Some of the early testing just showed how willing some companies are to shove their product out the door to whoever will pay for it, effectiveness proven or not.
