So I took the BC COVID self-assessment online after having some mild symptoms and it told me to get a test to be safe. So, okay. I called the hospital and they told me to call the "COVID Support Center" and gave me a 1-800 number. I called and the automated message told me that 1) they are not testing asymptomatic people and 2) the lines are full and that the call would end immediately after the message played through.

I spoke with a nurse through an online service and she wasn't able to find the fax info to forward my referral to, so she told me to call 811, which is basically our help desk for social services here in BC. 811 told me that others in my area have been calling in with the same issue. Apparently the COVID SUPPORT CENTRE only has like 5 lines that they can keep people on hold with, and anyone else gets disconnected.

I kept calling until I finally got placed on hold and this is what it sounds like. I am like 70 minutes deep right now and I feel sick to my stomach after listening to this jank for so long. I swear they just want people to get frustrated and hang up.

It's 2020 and they can't set up more phone lines to deal with the global pandemic and for some reason my free Discord server can have crystal clear audio but this government agency sounds like a fucking YakBak

Same kind of stuff in Finland. They ask you to come to tests even if you have mild symptoms, but then you have to wait 3 days to get to the test and then another 3 (working days) for the results. The sickness will be over when you get the results.

I think that the audio thing is related to the fact that in discord, they can use modern encodings for audio, but with phone lines you must have backwards compatibility, and the phone network is overall outdated, signal may get converted to multiple encodings on the way to your phone etc etc. For example, they may strip frequencies which don't matter much for speech to save bandwidth, that was maybe worth it 20 years ago but not anymore, but some systems on the way may still convert it, thus stuff like music sounds terrible because those frequencies may be important for music, even if not for speech.

It took 5 months in Finland for the government to come up with recommendation for using masks.
I personally have not been using them, because in Finland they STILL cost 40x the normal price, even though price in china for example has already decreased quite a bit.
Tomorrow the city/town/state plans to give some free masks out nearby for the poor, which I am planning to go get. But we'll see how that goes. I think they will probably run out of them or then simply not give you enough masks, or fuck up something else.

Also some amusing incapability of the government in Finland: on Monday, there was a new announcement about changing the limit for people attending public events to 50. Few hours after the announcement there was another announcement, where they told that the initial announcement had a mistake, a typo, and they actually meant that the limit will remain in 500, which it has been for some time. Well, yesterday (wednesday) they did another announcement, and they told that the limit is indeed going to be 50... It really seems like they do not know what they are doing. They probably have massive battles between people inside departments about these things.

Finland currently has only 1 person in ICU because of coronavirus, and during last month there have been maybe 3 deaths because of the coronavirus. But they are still only increasing limitations and recommendations.. Weird... Oh well


About the duration of the pandemic. It has been now around 6 months since the limitations began. I am 99% certain, that this is only the beginning. The limitations will continue for another 6 months at least so we are a bit less than halfway through.
Why? Well, it seems that they won't be relaxed at all before we get a medicine/vaccine. And the earliest vaccines seem to be coming during march-may next year. So it will be another 6 or so months, and even then it may take some time to vaccinate enough people.

But after that point governments must still put down restrictions or force vaccinations, because there is nothing that would change the situation.

Not much different than has come out in the US recently. The CDC has recently changed their recommended testing protocols. Test production just can't keep up with the "testing everyone that wants it." Why, I don't know. The manufacturing capability is there if anyone would try to direct it. Trained medical staff I'm not sure about.

The problem with this version of SARS is, like the previous version and like the common cold, it's a coronavirus. They have certain traits. Mutability is one potential trait. The vaccine we develop now may be worthless by the time it gets deployed in six months to a year time. This may well end up being the modern world's version of the plague... something we just have to deal with.

Testing seems pretty easy in Europe. In Germany there were testing clinics at the train stations. With scary lines of potentially infected all queuing up and making each other sick. Travelling now is kinda spooky tbh.

There was free testing in the UK as well though I never tried to actually go through the process. It's different everywhere. What I want is an antibody test. It seems strange that I can travel so much in the middle of a pandemic and not yet have been infected. Nobody is that lucky.

I'd honestly like to know if I can catch the virus and become infectious even with antibodies. Nobody ever answers the big questions in science anymore.

On masks; I read some mentions of masks catching droplets from your breath and the surrounding air. On the mask these droplets combine into larger droplets. Then they can be transmitted or inhaled. Who knows how long masks work for before becoming saturated.

I wanted to do something more detailed but we will be wearing worse masks when we have to start seeding the atmosphere with reflective particles. Why complain now. Plus when given the option of touring the canals or producing an essay the choice is easy.

The death rate in Australia grew a lot as the medical system became stressed by a large number of infections. In this time much younger people were also added to the death tally than before.

However the added social restrictions have by now choked out most of the growth in infections. Community transmission is unlikely to end now. The medical system is now less stressed though so less people are dying.

guys, this shit is so overhyped its fucking unreal. This is a huge political stunt, sorry the whole world has to be effected by it, but thats the reality. Is the Coronavirus real? yeah, likely, not sure I can argue that. Is it some hyper deadly killer? nah, like, not even close. I'm, without googling it at this point again, almost positive there has never been a vaccine for any SARS or coronavirus. There also has never been a need for it either. Anyones expectations that you are going to see a "cure" for any of this, is a huge logical fallacy. The cure will come the minute all this election stuff ends, at that point, there wont be a need to pander this crap any longer.

I literally worked with a guy who was tested for Covid, came back positive, was quarantined, then retested, and showed negative. We cant even test people properly, we are "assuming" covid cases due to signs & symptoms, and then making cases for these to be covid. Ya'll are clueless as to how any of this works, as I can without a doubt guarantee there is likely not a single person in this forum in the medical or law enforcement career or its affiliates that can substantiate there own experiences. Ya'll are making assumptions from articles being fed to you by news media, no matter what side of the fence they are on. They are a company SELLING a product.

Look, I can go to, lets call it, a "call for service" and theyll ask all these questions on this big ass list of potential symptoms. By you answering these questions, if you claim any, you are marked as a covid "patient/suspect/whatever", this information is sent off as a covid related interaction. How can we call it related to covid at all, if we have done no proper testing to corroborate this???? This is exactly the bullshit issues we are currently dealing with. If someone dies with covid related symptoms, they werent testing them, they were simply marking them as a covid case. Hospitals with any covid case received federal aid, which, if you believe this, incentivizes someone to lie about the number of patients they actually took in with covid. I cant say that is fact, but in my opinion, that "could" happen, and is believable to me. Remember most US hospitals are privately owned businesses.

I don't know but it is possible that this may affect on how painful the nostril that they use is. I guess one could test which of the nostrils seems to have less resistance when you block your other nostril.
