You should be able to eat some small items, like keys.
After ingesting item, it would take some time and then the item would be dropped under you.

Like if some bandits come, you can eat your keys/pearls etc. and then they won't be able to steal them.

You should only be able to ingest few items at a time.

Should also add in the counterplay element where doing this opts you into permadeath because it allows the bandits to cut them out of your stomach and leave you there to die!

Or when you right click a knocked out opponent, there could be option "dig deeper" to dig items from his mouth. This would leave scent and take some time with the hourglass thing.

Why would anyone try to get items from the mouth when they were swallowed? You would get them from the stomach, which is why this would kill them. Easiest way and fastest way would be to "dig deeper" through the the stomach!

Also, the person doing the swallowing of the item should have a chance to start "choking" if the do this while moving (probably a 50-60% chance to make it fair for all parties) which will exponentially grant the "Asphyxiation" wound while they continue to choke (due to the inability to breath) The choking could then be remedied by moving to a tree and interacting with it to do the heimlich maneuver on yourself (maybe a 10% chance per use), or having someone else do it for you (maybe a 25% chance to work). On success, the wound halts and the item(s) in question fall to the ground.

Also there should be a chance for any items successfully swallowed to never make it through your intestines causing a permanent injury that scales to your HP!

+1, when you are being ganked by griefers it's not very convenient to run for the closest water to drop your keys and bonds to lose them forever, but swallowing it and getting back after a few days -- that'd be great with any kind of injury, penalty or whatever!
