Memes aside, I agree it's a broken mechanic. But let's not kid ourselves that the timegate on leather is going to effect this. It costs 10 leather for infinity free corner posts. The timegate on leather means you're liable to actually be exterminated before you get your first palisade dry on day 2 or 3 or whatever if another faction gets your scents.
This is yet another "think of the spruce caps" bad faith argument, that if implemented, would be utilized to further victimize them.
The primary side effect of instantly obtained Palisades is that factions will immediately throw up safe Palisades and start to freely and without repercussions commit crimes on day 1. The primary effect of delayed Palisades is that it causes early day scents to run the risk of your character getting killed while offline if you start murder spree too early.
Perhaps ironically the lack of Palisades early gives people the threat of mutually assured destruction and renders risky trolling other players while factions scout for final resting spots. The lack of claims on cave entrances makes this risk even greater, although factions were still exterminated previously even with cave pclaims. That is exactly what happened to SnuggleSnail last world, and likely the reason for his "Think of the Sprucecaps" suggestion.
I say leave it unchanged. Factions are more than capable of putting down a few claims in random forests and hiding leather like every hermit has done for several worlds.
