So, I've been made aware that a bug exists, when a nidbane waiting for it's victim to log in and engage in combat, anyone can aggro the nidbane and it makes him attack his target while it's still offline. I guess this is a known bug abuse. I wonder what would the devs have to say on the matter.

we already PMed jorb about this months ago and Jorb's response was that its intended mechanic. Not a bug.
There was a wise soviet conscript that was surrounded by the enemy on the battle of Stalingrad. A mortar shot teared his pants apart causing a big hole in his pants right on his right butt cheek. He felt a glorious cold ass breeze of wind on his butt cheek, like it would be sent by stalin himself, he said - hide your butts

I seriously doubt that, could you provide a screenshot of PM or something? Otherwise what is the point of making a nidbane wait while criminal is offline at all...

So if a criminal is indoors, that mechanic doesn't apply?

It should arguably be fixed, but I don't think it's a big deal.

That's because you don't play and fight.

... or because I take the trivial precaution of logging out indoors when I am red-handed.
