Why do people hate Dis?

Anyway, as somewhat of a newcomer to this whole psychotic culture, maybe I can offer a unique perspective:

Frost killed my friend and I completely unprovoked earlier this summer. Then, Ozzy (of Dis, right?) posted a video of him killing Frost. I have no illusions that he did it on my behalf, but it was nice to see. So shouldn't I like Dis? But Dis busted up Beacon, in whose realm I live, so maybe I should dislike Dis. That said, Beacon getting raided hasn't been much more than a minor inconvenience. I didn't even know they existed until a cairn popped up one grid square from my wall. Someone went to the trouble of building it, but didn't bother leaving me a runestone or anything. It's hard to care what happened to Beacon, even if it's a nice looking place.

There's an exercise in morality where you imagine what someone would do if they had a perfect weapon. If a group or an individual had the capacity to kill any number of people at any time, who would die? If the answer is "all the Jews" or "all the black people" or "everyone from Croatia" or "anyone who carries out violence against someone else," you pretty much know their moral position. The analogy doesn't really hold for a game like this, but we can modify that analogy.

How about: What do you do when you're bored?

Players of this game invest lots of time and effort building up a character and a site, even if all they want to do is farm the same humble little plot and keep to themselves. If you like going around and killing others just because you're bored, you're an asshole. Maybe you've come to terms with it, maybe you like being an asshole. That's fine. But if you act like an asshole, or associate with assholes, people are going to treat you like an asshole.

Practically no one, as far as I can tell, has not been an asshole at one point, or associated themselves with assholes. So everyone has a lot of work to do if they want to convince anyone otherwise. You probably won't do it by posting on the forums.

It doesn't help that so many of you shits type like you learned English from reading Nicki Minaj's twitter feed.

Usually what tends to happen is if I'm alone out doing something else, like foraging, discovering moves or finding inactive settlements to raid, I don't go out in a mindset to kill someone. If I'm alone and out for another reason and run into someone, I don't kill them. Recently I had relocated to one of my other palisades so I could rebuild, and while scouting the area some Russian madman noticed me outside his walls and ran after me with a bronze sword and a boar tusk helmet. At this point I was in full PvP gear so idk what he was thinking, but I wasn't out looking to kill noobs so I just walked away. I have nothing to gain for the most part by killing or even downing him since nidbanes are so potent now.

Apart from this, sometimes when I'm not busy on a weekend, Friday or Saturday night, I'll be unoccupied and so will others I know. So I'll go out either alone or in a group of 2-3 people with the mindset of "we're going to go out looking for people to kill." Either we go out looking for scents at claims, go out tracking scents we already have or just wander hoping to find someone while chatting in a skype call. Essentially, we are bored and there is nothing else to do. It's in this situation where most noobs get killed on sight.

In addition, it is worth noting that while most instances of people leaving noobs alone or even being nice to them, it goes unreported, while a noob being killed or raided by an endgame player will immediately take to the forums in an angry rampage about how all people in X faction are dicks or liars, etc. I can say that I have helped more noobs than I have killed, but it's not the ones I help that take to the forums or ask people to kill me. I'm sure this is true for most people in Dis and AD who get a bad rap.

Most of the time no news is good news. However, some good news has been reported before especially when the benefits granted to a random act of kindness scales further than what they are normally capable of either through player experience or stats.

An example is when a stronger character is capable of killing a bear easily but for whatever reason, he cannot carry it back and decides to leave it on the lawn of a nearby P-claim. Half a day later, a random post on the forum thanking "whoever" for the the random bear.

While for veteran, a bear isn't a huge thing to give out but for a newbie who would get mauled fast by the bear, it is an invaluable help to them.

Honestly this whole thread is both hilarious and highly enlightening.

It reads like a big who's who primer of oldbies and their personalities.

So far I gather Ladygoo is kind of a shit. One thing I gotta ask is, is shit talk enough to warrant killing people? I'm honestly afraid to say I'm pro or anti Dis now cuz I fear it'll provoke the death wagon.

Imo ppl aughta be allowed to express distaste with you without making themselves a target.

Anyways I hate to say it but Jesus seems to, at least logically, got you in checkmate. Don't get emotional if you're looking to argue whether you're in the right or wrong.

But as much as that may stand, I gotta also say I distrust Jesus because if he associates with frost well, I don't want to associate with him. Frost is a dick. Killed me and burnt down my village for kicks awhile back. I'm not super broken up about it, like yes, I understand it's just a game. But I gotta hate anyone that kills noobs and fucks peoples shit up in this game outta boredom. That's a shit excuse to badly fuck up another person's experience with this game. In that regard I heavily agree with Boas I believe his name is. I'm not a total anti PvP care bear and I think the freedom of choice to be pirate or saint is one of the best things about this game. But if you're an asshole then just embrace what you are Imo. Trying to decieve others or yourself about it is good fuel for why someone might dislike you on a moral standpoint

Ozzy im still not sure about. Iirc he got revenge for my death on Frost. But this thread really doesn't make him seem like a stellar guy to me
