people reporting bugs before and abusing them after are the worst kind, no idea what you're talking about here

but then again - we had no bug to report

The procedure is you report and ask if it's kosher, and act accordingly with the dev's reply.

The easiest way to discover bugs in a game is let people abuse them, because bug abuse is people's main incentive to find bugs in the first place. They shouldn't be punished, their award is a good raid for discovering the bug, and the devs get to fix the bug. Also, ever heard of the "don't hate the player, hate the game"?

Think of it like this: The devs introduced a "wall" to the game. The "wall" has a sign on it saying "Protects ur shit.", but it also has a hole in it. Some players decided to walk through the hole to steal the "protected" shit. That's just how the game is.
Nuking people for helping you discover bugs makes no sense.

Wow, when you put it like that... I'm actually doubting my own opinion, such a well articulated argument right there.

Good point. Everybody should always lock everything down in extreme paranoia and avoid all interaction with other players.

Or maybe we can just expect that, you know, the whole visitor system actually works and demand that people exploiting bugs in the system are punished for it.

NOOBY93 wrote:Seems as if a few simple measures could've prevented this.

How do you protect yourself from a bug you did not know exists? From everything people knew before this happened, this situation should have been safe. Measures against what, precisely?

Potjeh wrote:Was this reported to devs before doing it? If not, nuke.

It wasn't even reported AFTER doing it. Jorb asked for an explanation on page 3.

That may be true for design problems, yes, but not for technical problems. There was no design problem here, only a technical oversight.

But even then,
1. The bug needs to be reported. It was exploited here without being reported even afterwards.
2. The bug needs to be reported beforehand, even. In extreme cases like these, the damage to other players' game experience is too much to just allow a complete raid through this bug. Yes, people finding bugs should be rewarded, but random players don't need to become the victim of this, at least not to this extent.
3. There is a reward, and it's called a dev cape. The reward is not 'destroying everything other players have built up'.

Reporting bugs isn't rewarding enough. I know a lot of pretty serious bugs but why would I report them? To get thanks from devs? I'd rather abuse them and get profits lel

If you were involved in the bug jump wars of world 5 you'd have a very different opinion i'm sure. Back and forth with who can find bug jumps is not fun.
