I believe it more to do with the damage rather than the bow.

I skipped the last three pages but I didn't see anyone put forth an idea like "arrows in real life don't just drop animals when you shoot them, they run, you follow a blood trail." So how about instead of getting shot with an arrow and being knocked out, you start bleeding. This can lead to you being KO'd from blood loss but gives melee fighters a chance to still close in after being hit, more hits from arrows should speed the blood loss. It's not a perfect fix but it's a start that wouldn't break bows for combat use. This could also be used with the animals in game to help those with no horse kill animals that run faster than them, if they are willing to follow it until it's bled out that is.

when thinking on all these numbers and such, where does armor, if any, play a role in this?
