It's not significantly harder to make the walls, though -- it just takes a little bit more brick (same amount of wrought required). The requirements for palisades have not changed.

I agree with the change, While I can still break through walls, It will now take me a shitload of time.

ok so is this the beginnings of a character reset? newbies are screwed hard now that all the blackarts skills just had an extra 0 added to the end of their costs.

Damned glad I already bought all the pvp skills a few days ago even though I didn't need any of them.

This change causes an even greater discrepancy between the haves and the have-nots.

Newbies are only positively affected by this update. Unless they plan on being a criminal, whereupon they get no pity from me. Grind away, lawbreakers!
The grumpiest tree you ever did see.

Character: Hamel, previously Chieftain of Ancient Bottleneck, a founding father of the Confederation of Bottleneck. Currently a hibernating soul.

That would only be the case if the new costs affected people already with the skill, possibly placing them into point debt. Right now, you have characters running around with the cheap version while anyone foolish enough to start fresh, well...

E: I take that back, newbies wouldn't be positively affected with point debt either. This is an all around bad change. They should have tied it to a max belief slider to prevent alt abuse. Maybe not even that would help.

That's stupid. They're not positively affected at all, how can you possibly think that? Can you even attack someone to defend yourself (ie, they initiate combat) if you don't have rage? This is a huge blow to newbies, and if you wanted to play a pure carebear game, go play something else -- I'm a carebear, but even I can understand that screwing over people who want to do pvp-style things, or whatever, is basically the same as turning it off. I have theft but have never used it (or the other stealing-type skills), but now what do you think happens when a thief steals an item and puts it on their claim?

WELL NONE OF THE NEWBIES CAN GET IT BACK AND HIRING A RANGER IS SOMETHING A NEWBIE CANT AFFORD. So they're basically completely vulnerable until they grind up the Tresspass->Theft->Vandalism (if it's a large object) + Ranging->Rage->Murder to take back their stuff and kill the thief. That will now cost...

20k+30k+50k+7.5k+30k+100k = 237k

It will cost you 237K LP to retaliate against a thief.

I've played for two weeks with no macroing and only earned 116062 LP.

That's possibly four straight weeks of grinding nothing but pvp skills. And it doesn't include skill values that make combat actually feasible.

Just spent far too long repairing a wall but otherwise this should be a reasonable short term solution to the alt problem. It really was a bit easy to knock down a palisade and also this makes each hearthling worth more to the owner. I really don't understand the frustration shown in the objections as this is temporary, the LP system is likely to be completely changed at some point and the thieving and ranging updated to help thieves more.

Good job guys keep it up.

I'd imagine a new player has a number of choices really. They could join a town with a dedicated ranger and work for protection or they could make a post pleading for help on the forum and I'd imagine a ranger would be happy to help a newbie for something stupid like some fish or even free.

Unfortunately not with the whole alt vault business. Hopefully that will be fixed alongside the ranging and thieving update.
