Did Jorb forget to mention that? It's quite a core part of it all. :)

Authority objects have the following restrictions on their location of erection:
* They must be built either within the influence of an existing authority object, or so that the new object's influence would include an existing object.
* They cannot be build so that they would influence the authority objects of other villages.
* They cannot be built too close to other authority objects.

That last point is a bit underrepresented in the game UI right now. Each authority object has a radius within which no other authority objects may be built (which is, obviously, smaller than its radius of influence), but that radius is not actually indicated anywhere; you'll just get an error message if you try to build them too close to each other.

The implications of these rules should be quite obvious.

Is there any way to make it so the lawspeaker (or anyone in the town really) can see what the village claim covers? Because we aren't sure where ours ends in our town.

Hmm, it seems we've got some conflicting reports about ctrl + click working. A couple of us seem to get the same result as just clicking, while one guy claims it's working fine for him. Is there some secret to this technique or am I just dense?

You probably just need to get your client updated. ;)

It's tricky, actually; and I'm not sure what to do about it. I could implemented a half-assed solution for it, and it might be better than nothing, so maybe I will.

Any hints on what the next update will bring?

I almost laughed. :) You seem to be under the assumption that we have some kind of semi-definite plan for the future. Of course, we do have a long to-do list, but when it comes to what we're actually doing, we usually just decide more or less arbitrarily at the start of each dev session. And, even besides that, our plans can change completely from one day to the next, so even if I said anything that we're thinking right now, we may decide to turn that upside down before the next dev session.

OK, I have to ask. What does the village claim (extended with authority objects of not) _do_ at present?

At present, authority-consuming skills can only be performed in the area of the village claim. It will almost certainly be extended to cover a lot of the functionality of ordinary claims, however (with a few twists).

A quick thought / warning with regards to Ctrl + click dropping items: it works in containers/smelters/etc. too. My insolent left pinkie was on Ctrl when I thought it was on Shift and I lost two cast iron (how will I ever replace that? ) behind the smelter. I bring it up mainly because it's somewhat non-intuitive (though it certainly helps clearing smelters of stone...)

so outsiders can't build within the range of the idol or banners?
The ones who see things differently.

You can praise them, disagree with them, quote them, disbelieve them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can't do is ignore them.
And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius.
