however we are rebuilding raid array. is there sth we can do to improve the i/o performance without turning RAID off?

and as someone mentioned, if a mirror server would keep us playing while sth crashed again, I believe we players are quite willing to donate the maintainance

what is more, since we have already had a RAID here, i wonder if it is possible to build a 2 node High Availability Cluster. that is what i mean "mirror".
And i wonder how much it would cost...

For those of you who are gonna ask in 5 minutes: That's about 7 and a half hours. Good night Loftar.

7 and a half hour would put uss to 12:30 in sweden (UTC/GMT +1 hour) so i hope the server will be back 1 o clock (UTC/GMT +1 hour)

Did it ever come up and people played?
I ask because when I look at the home page it says the server has been shut down since Monday at 4:27 UTC( which should be 5:27 forum time -UTC+1 right).

search.php?keywords=&terms=all&author=loftar

Thanks for the recap. However, I still am wondering why the home page says a shutdown occured since 4:27 UTC on 6/18, and Loftar said he started it back up in a post at 22:02 (UTC +1, 6/18). I see that his post at 22:43 (UTC +1 6/18) was before the shutdown to replace the hardrive scheduled for 22:30 UTC. So was there a short window of time where the server came up or not?

I re-ask because I am still puzzled by the statement on the homepage in light of the Loftar posts. Did anyone play last night, even if for only a minute.

it's this issue of people mistaking convenience for laziness or "casual" gameplay, . . . there is no reason why not to have sacks . . .

So will the server go back up by itself, or will we need to wait for loftar to wake up to maunally boot it?

It sounds like the server is hosted in a data center somewhere. If the data center were to upgrade to machines that used hot-swappable hard drives then we could (in theory) play whilst the raid array was rebuilding itself if this were to happen again. Not knowing how powerful the machine is, i would imagine that there would be a noticeable affect on the game performance while that was happening though.
