It's sort of driving me insane. There was a flood of content and information and now there's just nothing. I hope that it means they're making a huge push to get all of the data together and implemented so that the alpha is playable to the point where we can actually figure things out.

To whoever does get in alpha, doesn't matter who, they just better playtest the hell out of every little goddamn thing before beta. I'm hoping we don't have any game crippling bugs or horrendously retarded mechanics. Like taming is terrible in HnH because it's so convoluted, unintuitive, and down right impossible to figure out without looking up tons of guides and walkthroughs. There's no discovery involved in it, just desperately flailing around then looking up the answer.

Unfortunatly i bet for the oposit, it looks like they want to make Salem a more complicate gameplay then H&H.
Look at all those "yellow bile" and such, and the additions steps to make bread and so on.
They dont understand that the purpose of a game is to make it simple and funny.
H&H is fun because the goal is to explore than to be involve in politic and fight to ressources and such, the crafting stuff is just a simple time sink.
Now Salem is a "crafting MMO", they dont even talk about the PvP and real interesting goals.

I don't agree with you. Adding extra steps and processes -- complicating procedures -- can be fun and interesting as long as you're not making it about novel discovery (Anything that relies on novel discovery in MMOs and games as a whole destroys not only replayability but is just poor design in general.) Make every step along the way not only pivotal but also genuinely interesting each time. If we had to play with the alchemical properties every step along the way to get better goods towards the end and if doing so was a legitimately worthwhile and rewarding endeavor then it would be fun. If you're adding time sinks for the sake of adding time sinks then it's boring and useless. It would be neat if some processes were actually optional but served to better refine our materials or branch them outward.

There's absolutely nothing inherently wrong with the current humor system nor is there anything wrong with crafting. The fact that we can build, create, and decide our own life is splendid. I hope that each path is fleshed out enough that we can immerse ourselves in a profession and fully enjoy that aspect of the game regardless if it's exploration, crafting, building, foraging, hunting, raiding, or whatever else.

There is more to HnH than just politics and pvp as there is should be more to Salem than just crafting and dying miserably.

Put simply, if you want simple and funny then go play Idlequest.swf. I'd love an intricate and well put together game. Whether Salem will amount to this expectation is doubtful just because it is a high demand but regardless, we can do our best as testers to push it towards this goal of being a genuinely Good game that is not only immersive and time consuming but fun and engaging as well.

This is why I say that regardless of who gets into alpha, may it be the inner party or some random paradox gamers or maybe just some personal friends of JLo, that they test the every loving shit out of every little thing and confront the devs when something is just a retardedly convoluted mechanic that does not need to be implemented.

Edit: Also the small snippet they added to their facebook was well appreciated. It seems that they're working on foraging now~
