It would take 2009900 LP to get 200 in any one skill. This is equivalent to harvesting that 8x8 field and refining and grinding the whole thing 115 times. If we get four of them all together, you might get to farming level 200 if you spent at least an hour a day doing nothing but farming for a whole month.

Remind me again why I'm doing this? So I can get to be an average player?
As much as J&L like to pretend otherwise, crafting is a side dish to the main "gameplay" of H&H: killing mobs. Or rather, watching your character kill mobs.

This makes me sound like I don't like this or that it's somehow wrong for other people to spend more time playing than I do. I really don't care, and in fact I think that having really high level-players and low-level players and all of that is an interesting dynamic- or would be if it was a little more balanced. As it is you can kill anyone lower than you and no-one higher than you. Frankly, THAT just kills any sense of conflict you could have. But I'm getting off-topic.

Inventory improvements good.
Surprise.

I think Peter has a point, but, then again, we've said that it is our ambition to rework both character development and animals. I wrote a long wall of text the other day, where I basically said that I'm not entirely convinced by the present representation of hunting, so hearing that I like to "pretend otherwise" comes as a bit of a surprise to me. ;)

That being said, Potjeh and Sabinati aren't completely off-track. High-level crafting definitely gives LP.

OK, pretend otherwise was just me expressing my poetic license. It wouldn't have sounded nearly as good if I'd said "As much as J&L... um... agree with the basic point I'm making..."

You need to get up to a high level to get the good LP for crafting.

One easy (exploity) way of doing that is to get 30 marksmanship and travel with a HL character hunting bears.

Another way would be to just start producing low quality farm goods and be a little patient.

Personally I only like hunting bears for the social aspect. I much prefer farming, landscaping and construction projects.

I don't care so much about LP though, I find it comes over time no matter what I do

I still get nightmares from the loom forests.

i think what we can all agree on after this thread is that LP sucks and that its removal should be high priority

I think it should coincide with the next map reset, the one where we get vaguely realistic-looking terrain instead of this macaroni art.

i have to admit that as much as i desire an improved mapgen, reworking LP and combat is probably more important
