Road-based fast travel where you can be waylaid. You can choose to take a no-value alt and guarantee losing all the goods if you're waylaid, or you can bring a party of developed combat characters and risk losing them but have a good chance to wipe out the highwaymen and save your goods.

Only that could really be abused with the top faction putting ambush bots on important roads.

If by 'fast travel' you mean 'you move quicker on roads' and not 'instant travel', I can't agree more.

I don't imagine those bots lasting very long against other major factions. Hell, hunting highwaymen would probably be the favourite pastime of PvP-oriented players, because they'd be easy to find and far from safety of their walls.

Serious villages and communities would now have people whose entire job it was to hunt highwaymen. The only drawback here is those who would use worthless alts to watch the road for likely targets, and to avoid patrols. One the other hand, if you give a 5-10 minute cooldown on the ability to initiate an attack on login without a scent equivalent, this would seriously impede this problem.

Yes, I have always kept that suggestion of yours in mind, and I do think we'll implement something quite like it.

No! You would kill trade.

Trade would adapt... What you mean is:

"You would kill trade the way we have come to know it, and we're afraid of a change that makes this process challenging and necessary."

Right now it's neither. Sufficient time spent on your own and you can reach any tech level with any amount of resources. No village truly NEEDS another village.

This needs to change.

No I am not afraid of change at all. However randomly losing items in your inventory is just bad. You look down the end of an angry faction member who lost something he just traded for due to travel and since he needed you for it to begin with he decides to raid you to get it instead of pay for another which he may just lose again. YOU WOULD KILL TRADE!

I like fast travel via a road system, which implies you first have to create the road system.

Don't focus on one silly suggestion like % chance of losing items so much guys.
