Just to be sure on this, even that wouldn't "help" again nightvision hacks. Even if the server didn't sent objects that are outside light-sources, people would still be incentivized to crank up the light, because that would allow them to see objects popping in as soon as possible instead of fading in, and to see everything clearer in general.

That is not to say anything positive or negative about or otherwise judge either such mechanics or light hacks; it is just to say that if you consider such mechanics as a means to disincentivize light hacks, then you are, objectively speaking, wrong.

I don't play any more but I'm waiting for the new haven so I'll add my thought to the discussion.

Right now h&h is for most people just bots and pvp with all the hacks you can imagine... I like the brutal environment of the game but what enjoy most is out growing my opponent and not out-raiding him, that is to say the fun comes from building yourself superior to the enemy by farming, mining, foraging, trading ect. - simply making yourself richer ... witch is something of a buzz kill when all that is determined by who has the best bots.

In short I enjoy murdering a pour bastard who's stats and gear are no match for mine rather than wasting hours fighting someone of equal strength.

I think you should do everything you can to eliminate bots/light hacks/superior radars etc. AND include in the VANILLA release everything that you don't think can be eliminated: bots/light hacks/superior radars etc. so that a raider will still have to work hard and long to be able raid in the first place regardless of his coding skills. 8-)

EDIT:

I don't thing that something like forced pitch black would ruin the game, it would more rather improve it:

- people would learn to forage/hunt just in the day hours and not in the middle of the night forcing more role play.
- mining and cave items such as cavebulbs would just become more expensive making you prize your swords, saws and iron gates
- raiders would have field day ambushing their victims in the depth of nigh like real bandits do

Doubly wrong; thinking this was possible and for thinking ugly eyestraining graphics acceptable in The Year of Our Lord 2014

I would like to see musical instruments. Maybe they had the effect of removing the fatigue of travel, the radial range over other people around. Quality affected by charisma and psyche.

We have discussed instruments at some length. :)

Are we going to see bands of raiders carrying the bagpipes blasting Scotland the Brave while slaughtering people, or something along the lines of that?
