To be honest, if you're set up enough to have to moan about handplowing nerfs, then you're probably set up enough to not need to survive on string roots.

Yes, I did. I don't see the relevance of invoking the "think of the newbies!" clause when you're moaning about something that only comes into play as a minor annoyance when you're FARMING, since I suspect the common newb wouldn't get a big enough farm to plow to moan about handplowing until a few weeks into the game.

Hmm. I play now for 10 days or something.
I had my first farm on day 2 ingame. There's a lot of unclaimed crops that can be easily harvested for seeds by any new player to start a farm.

Mind you, I did replant what I took. It is unpolite not to, even when unclaimed.

On other notion.. I have no trouble with plowing being nerfed. I never handplowed.

Ah, well. I'm speaking without any experience of what it's like to search for seeds on my own, since I had a friend who supplied me with seeds.

My argument remains, however, that this is a minor nuisance - and I actually like using plows. it feels more "real" than digging stuff with my own two hands.

No, that was actually a secondary crash afterwards. It took me a long time to notice it, since it wasn't a "crash" in the strictest sense of the term (I've got a signal handler that informs me of crashes), but an infinite loop in trying to wilderness-spawn a new character. Which brings the connection to warrri's post. It seems that the census is going haywire some way or another, and suddenty the whole map is civilized. I don't really think we've got the about 10000 active characters that would be required for that with this size of the map according to my calculations, so it must be that my civilization area-influencing formula is acting up. I'll investigate, but I don't really know how long it will take me.

Maybe its because some people spammed hearthfires when it was bugged and theyre still there?

What will the common newb do for weeks in the game then if not start farming noob? Especially if they are in a pine forest with no access to well anything? If he even manages to survive long enough to be able to find a a few seeds. And it's not a fucking minor annoyance and farming is pretty much tied to almost all crafting jobs. Do I need to mention the fact that the 30% limit is bugged for some people? Here's a post from a girl who actually liked farming (don't understand how someone could enjoy it as opposed to doing it because it gets you stuff you NEED but she did.)

I'm all done. They broke farming. It's almost unplayable.
I was at 56% stamina and couldn't even harvest my onions.
I have to be at 70% or more to do ANYTHING.

Fuck it.

Sorry, guys.

I'll come back with they fucking fix it.
I'm so pissed off.

I would love it so much if clueless people stopped talking out their ass fucking weeks before starting to farm omg.

Not to be insulting, but the Devs (so far as I've noticed) RARELY, if ever, thrash out the full consequences or fallout of the nerfs/additions/upgrades or ideas that pop into their heads. I like the idea of new characters being spawned in the wild..but there is fallout that is NOT playable in a funn fashion that needs to be considered (balances like upping the apperance of wild seeds then). The "plow nerf" is likewise just as failed, as their is fallout that is certianly no "fun" (the very foundation of the word "GAME" by the way). (Personally I've never seen a wild wheat field in my whole gaming experience so I have no idea how rare or common they are but I've certianly traveled a bit).

As for the plow thing, well, that would be fine with me EXCEPT the retarded and rediculous decay rate on the plows themselves. Often I would hand plow and take the stamina hit (Which means crawl+increased food consumption) directly because I didn't want to use my plow because I knew I would have to then go a get blocks of wood to repair it 2,3 even 4 times a session according to how much plowing I did. (And yes my plows stay in my cabins) I totally put away my metal plow cause no way in hell am I wasting my metal to repair the metal plow that often. There's a big big big big big differnce between "fun" and "tedious".

I don't mind doing anything reasonably, as the complexity is what maks it "real" and fun. Repairing my plow once every couple days of use would be fine, but 3-4 times a day because I spend 2 hours grinding my fields is bull and = tedious, not "real" nor "fun".

THere was absolutely nothing broken about hand plowing. Maybe it's unrealistic but until they fix hunger in general, this 'fix' is game-breakingly lame. Like hunger.

Personally I haven't plowed in months. And for months before that I was already using a metal plow. Still, there were several weeks in my beginning where I almost starved quite a few times waiting for my apple tree to grow.

ANd yeah, between 3 farmers, 2-3 bars of cast/day is burnt farming. I've often thought it might be a bit excessive.
