Hmm, yeah thats true, I guess they would have to clear all scents from before the crash somehow (if thats even possible).

As in, if my village has been nuked, will my character still exist, but only be able to log into the wilderness somewhere?

Yes, and yes.

a healthy alternative is everyone keeps their character, but loses their equipment and inventory, refunded LP for claim and village (if possible), and loses their criminal acts abilities (again if possible) and simply start a world 5.1. Maybe even keep the hearthstone location (if possible).

wtf no way, what the hell is that suggestion.

just get rid of scents if at all possible, or disable summoning for a little while, and turn on the server, as soon as we know that the maps can't be recovered. having some supergrids nuked is fine, it would be pretty interesting. Just pretend that goblins ate your village or something.

I imagine that most of the protestors assume their land would remain intact, and vigilance, you are known for killing people so I can understand why you wouldn't mind peacefull characters not being behind walls and underequipped to survive.

personally i'm assuming that my village is gone, i'm always looking for new experiences. the highlight of this world so far for me was getting chased down and killed by 3 raiders :P

EDIT: also, so just because you think your/someone elses stuff is gone you think everyone should go back to square 1? thats ridiculous. why can't we look at this as an exciting GAME. I think it would be fun to have lots of refugees roaming around looking for work in the villages that survived, and getting killed/hired/exploited, as part of this extremely immersive and complex game.
